Good morning! Welcome to the DKos Sangha weekly open thread.
This is an open thread for members of the DKos Sangha and others who are interested in discussions concerning how we integrate our progressive political activism into our spiritual practice. If you have observations about the political discourse of the week, or about practice, or about anything else related to walking a spiritual path through the political world, if you wish to share, or if you seek support, or if you simply want to say hello, please do; this space is for you.
If you would like to host a weekly open thread, please let me know.
If you care nothing for spiritual practice and only wish to denigrate and disparage, please do so elsewhere, and respect that this is a community diary for the DKos Sangha.
Spam, unsolicited junk email; it seems to continually increase in volume, and recent weeks have of course featured a flood of spam messages related to Mother's Day. They seem to come in waves; and they tend to color Mother's Day with the brush of crass commercialism.
But this morning a friend of mine wrote a Happy Mother's Day greeting from the perspective of appreciating and celebrating the Divine Feminine. I loved it. Her greeting gave me a much deeper appreciation of this day; and I've been thinking from that perspective of my own mother, my friends who are mothers, the feminine side of my own human nature, and of course our Mother Earth.
In Taoism and Traditional Chinese Medicine, phenomena are viewed as the interplay of yin and yang; feminine and masculine, in and out, interior and exterior, contraction and expansion, etc. And in many spiritual traditions the movement, the interplay, the dance of the feminine and the masculine are recognized as essential elements of being; Shakti and Shiva being perhaps the most well known of these.
Two friends here in Asheville whom I see from time to time are mothers with infants; and being with them, sharing with them, has given me a deeper appreciation of the Divine Feminine in our daily lives as well as in our connection with, and manifestation of, the Divine Feminine as an essential part of our very nature as human beings.
So today we celebrate and appreciate our mothers, all mothers, and that which finds expression in and through our mothers, the Divine Feminine.
Happy Mother's Day!
