More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I voted for this president!  Why is he acting like the creep I DIDN'T vote for?

Jeez!  I am beyond pissed off.

since he is not running again.

Maybe he's not comfortable with the idea of his own daughters having this choice? He wouldn't be the first father with such an attitude.

I have two sons and no daughters.  I'd like to think that if I did have daughters, I'd manage at least to make peace with the idea that my daughters would have this choice.

There's a saying, "Every father's daughter is a virgin."  I have a feeling one of the last strongholds of the idea that patriarchs can control the bodies of the women around them will be in fathers trying to control the bodies of their daughters.  I hope Obama can grow up and drop the idea before his daughters do.

This is an appeal to delay, not a delay (yet).

What the admin is doing in this case is unconscionable, and reportedly it goes to Obama himself, with the rationale given that because he has daughters and is uncomfortable with the idea, it is somehow OK to block access millions of other less privilaged girls, some raped and abused, or living in fundamentalist families or small towns that would slut shame them to suicide if someone found out.

Tip: please post at least some text and maybe a relevant block quote of the linked article with your diary.

Unrestricted Plan B Sales Put on Hold
      By JENNIFER CORBETT DOOREN

A federal appeals court on Monday agreed to temporarily put on hold the unrestricted sale of the Plan B emergency contraceptive to all ages while it considers a government appeal of a lower court ruling.
Apparently the court will consider a delay on May 28, and put a short term delay in place until then.  I'd be pleasantly surprised if the appeals court actually turned Plan B loose then.  But maybe that court will at least put the rush on the foot-dragging Justice Department lawyers.

      One odd thing:

The FDA separately on April 30 approved an application by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. TEVA +0.90% to sell its Plan B One-Step product without a prescription to people age 15 and older, lowering the current minimum age from 17.  Girls younger than age 15 would have to obtain a prescription to obtain Teva's drug. The FDA's decision applies only to Teva's product and would keep other versions of Plan B subject to the age 17 requirement.  [Emphasis added.]
It makes zero sense to me that one brand of Plan B should be approved down to age 15 while other brands are stuck at age 17.  But I suppose sense departed the debate about contraception and abortion long ago.

has been excellent on women's issues overall.

But this one thing he is REALLY wrong, forcing his father's views on every family's views whose teenage daughters under 17 would find themselves in a difficult situation.

Plan B will keep all daughters safe.

How could he be overuling the FDA recommendations and pediatricians here?

Obama can sometimes be really stubborn when he is wrong on something and quite idiotic too. Any authority becomes guilty of this at one point.

Parents aren't perfect and they can have darkest impulses where they cloud out realities and say "because I said so and my word is right PERIOD".

I can assure you that if either of them were in a position of needing Plan B, there is nothing he could do about it.

And if he does actually feel this way, he is way more provincial then I ever imagined.

  •  Probably Jesus told him to do it. (0+ / 0-)
