It seems for every event, there is a questioning of the facts presented in the case. For every piece of legislation, there is an outlandish suggestion of ulterior motives. Yet for the IRS scandal, everyone seems to more-or-less in line with the facts with little question. But, dear readers, what if conspiracy theories truly abounded?
Let's take a look at some potential conspiracy theories. (Note that I don't believe any of these, but I've read enough conspiracy theories to form some plausible ones.)
The Democrats and Conservatives are working together to get the Tea Party! This would seem to be easiest one. The IRS Director was a Bush appointee, and the scandal took place in 2010 under the Obama administration. The whole "they're all working together to screw us" comes up for just about everything, so why not for the IRS scandal? In fact, it's almost suspiciously absent from a lot of the social media I check.
The GOP are out to get Obama! Again, going on the fact that the IRS director was a Bush appointee, it only stands to reason that this was a false-flag type policy to strengthen the GOP. Bush and the GOP still have plenty of high level folks at positions that seem innocuous, why not use them to discredit Obama at every turn?
And OMG! Speaking of false-flag, what if the Tea Party were setting THEMSELVES up? Let's face it, the GOP and the Tea Party are totally in bed with each other. Clearly, they used their Bush connections to influence the IRS director to authorize this investigation to make themselves look like victims. Guys, there really weren't even any Tea Party groups either. All these fake groups were actually set up just to be targeted. The real Tea Party groups are fine controlling you safely from afar.
I will state once more that believing any of the above would be quite outlandish, but certainly no more outlandish than any OTHER conspiracy (ie, Obama was born in Kenya, the man who lost his legs in Boston had prosthetics, the 9/11 planes were remote controlled and empty, etc.), so why haven't I heard anything like this? Maybe it's because, despite any false equivalence painted by the media, our side really ISN'T as crazy as theirs. I mean, duh, we knew that.
