Pablo Pantoja was hired to be the director of outreach to Latinos for the GOP in Florida.
The outreach effort caused at least one voter to change parties. After interacting with the GOP power structure for a while Pantoja became a Democrat. The most important of his reasons was what he called their "intolerance".
He has an interview with Adam Weinstein in Salon, worth reading in its entirety: http://www.salon.com/...
His resignation letter is at http://thefloridanation.com/...
For the busy, there are a few interesting points below the [insert clever name for orange thing].
He was a Republican in the first place because he believed their economic message, that they were pro-entrepreneur and that the Democrats were anti-American "socialists".
He was willing to dismiss the occasional "wetback" remark as a mistake, but eventually came to see intolerance as a "core issue" in the party. It's not just the latest headlines: he's seen racist pseudo-science all along.
Now he finds the Democrats more reality-based on minority issues, and possible to negotiate with on economic issues.
He's actually pretty diplomatic in the interview, but his action speaks loudly.
