In all honesty, this is a rant. It's simply about the day I reached my limit with politicians asking for money. I can't believe that I'm the only one that feels this way. If you're inclined, kick that orange-ish thingy out of the way and meet me down below for my response to that particular email.
I don't know when it became the standard for political organizations to ask for "just five bucks", but ever since it seems that the number of political emails I receive has increased by two or three fold, and everybody just wants 5 bucks.
Don't get me wrong; I'm not talking about the emails relating to conservation, wildlife, homelessness or any of the many vaid causes and concerns that I help as often as I can. This is just about the endless emails I receive from all the folks espousing (and needing support for) "democratic/liberal" issues.
Back in early May I received an email from democrats.org talking about the Republican's plummeting approval rating on the gun control issue; the title of the email was
Get President Obama"s back right now.
There were three paragraphs that stuck out for me:
The NRA's lobbyists think if they throw enough money around, they can get Republicans to vote however they want them to and protect them afterward-it makes me mad as hell.
But they're forgetting that we've got 90 percent of Americans on our side-and we're not backing down.
Now, chip in $5 or more to help us fight back and elect Democrats across the country who will help us continue to push for these common sense reforms.
I couldn't help it, I really couldn't. That just pushed my last button. I sent back this email:
I’ll tell you what, Mr. Wxxxxxxxx. When the President has my back, and most of the country’s back, and tells the Republicans that there will be no tinkering with Social Security and the things that created and sustain the middle class, or anything that hurts seniors and denies them a dignified retirement after working all their lives, then I’ll worry about having his back again.
I’ve spent a fair amount of money to help him and other “democrats” get elected, and I’m not feeling like it was money well spent. I feel the same way about gun control. As you yourself said, 90 freakin’ percent of the country is on your side on this issue, and you can’t find a way to get that done? Really? That’s pathetic, and I’m mad as hell too. I’m going to spend my five bucks on something with a better return rate, like the lottery.
That's it; it felt good to write it. As if by magic, the emails from democrats.org have stopped. I just hope someone on the other end was paying attention.
