Peter Lee, Executive Director of Covered California, the states new insurance exchange, produced an analysis showing high double to triple digit rises in health care premiums once the ACA is fully implemented, countering Paul Krugman's Monday op-ed. Premium prices, according to Lee, would rise most significantly in the large San Francisco, San Diego and Orange County markets.
Lee indicated cost would rise both for the average uninsured 25 year old, and for the average 40 year old as well. Average increases would equal 116 percent.
If this is true I can't imagine a more catastrophic result for the Democratic Party. Failing to produce a positive result in their landmark first Obama administration legislation, would be a major blow to party credibility.
