From The New York Times: "Textile Strike Spreads"
The strike of the textile workers of Philadelphia for a 55 hour week spread today to the hosiery mills. Fully 8,000 persons joined the already large army of idle workers. Most of these were women and children employed in the hosiery mills in the Kensington district. This class of workers are unorganized, but they decided to join the ranks of the unionist in other branches of the textile trade when they saw the magnitude of the movement for a shorter week....
[The Manufacturers] declare they will close down their establishments indefinitely before submitting to the union.

From the Brooklyn Daily Eagle: "We've Got the Pirates on the Run"
Mother Jones gave another long interview yesterday. And this time, she was described more favorably, as an "Aged Fighter" and a "Remarkable Woman!" The reporter gave us this discription of Mother Jones:
While [reporters] watched the elevator for the veteran labor leader, she bounced into the room from another direction, having scorned the "elevator contraption" and used the stairs, "just to keep young," as she explained.
"If these society butterflies would take a little exercise occasionally, there wouldn't be so many rich doctors," she said. "But come up to my room. We can be alone and say what we please."
By the time Mother Jones has ascended the stairs with the agility of a girl, it is easy to understand why newspaper correspondents, magazine writers, and other scribes who have been sent into the coal regions of West Virginia to describe the civil war that has prevailed in that state for over a year, have emerged, and taking their pens in hand have described-Mother Jones.
She is unique. Short of stature, with a slight limp in her walk, and with curly white hair and "specs," she resembles almost my grandmother who has lived a a peaceful life in the bosom of a happy family . When she talks, you forget the happy grandmother simile. You think that grandmother is cross. Mother is very cross at the "pirates," as she calls the people in West Virginia. But through it all there is a wonderful tolerance and moderation. Her voice is high falsetto, but not harsh. There is also the touch of the Irish, in brogue and oratorical flourish.

From Making Change at Walmart: "Ride 4 Repect Still Rolling"
Almost to Bentonville!
OUR Walmart members are still rolling across the country! Caravans have now made stops in Baton Rouge, Chicago, Phoenix, and many more places along the way to Bentonville!
[On Friday,] the Southern California caravan stopped at stores in Clovis, New Mexico (where they picked up 2 new strikers!) and Phoenix, Arizona to hold actions, where they were joined by supporters like UFCW Local 1564 President Greg Frazier and AZ State Representative John Larkin.
Nicole Mora, from store #2609 in Lakewood, CA is on a bus going to Bentonville. She tells why she joined the #Ride4Respect:
I am going to Bentonville to speak up for myself, along with all my coworkers that live in fear to speak up about issues at work. By joining this trip to Bentonville, I will help support workers who want positive change, and demand justice for all walmart associates nationwide.
My trip on the caravan today made me realize that I am not alone in this battle for justice. Even though the members on board don’t work for the same location as me, we are all facing similar issues at work. Today’s action in Pheonix, AZ helped me realize that we all really do stand up and speak out as one.
