Wisconsin Republicans have now hit a new low.
The Republican-controlled Joint Finance Committee of the Wisconsin State Legislature is expected to approve adding a statewide expansion of school vouchers in Wisconsin to the proposed state budget in the early hours of this morning.
While there are many awful things about this proposal, such as Wisconsin taxpayer money funding unaccountable private schools and increased property taxes, during the JFC hearing that is still ongoing at the time this diary is published, the non-partisan Wisconsin Legislative Fiscal Bureau made this downright stunning revelation:
LFB confirms voucher schools are not prohibited from hiring individuals convicted of felonies or sex crimes. #wibudget
Yes, you read that correctly...private schools receiving Wisconsin taxpayer money via a statewide school voucher program are allowed to hire convicted felons and sex offenders to teach.
To me, the mere thought of convicted sex offenders being allowed to teach in taxpayer-funded private schools is just downright sickening, and I don't even live in Wisconsin. Also, the reason why the Republicans are proposing this in the early hours of the morning is because they want as few people as possible to know about it.
