As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Ok, we have the following regular diary schedule. If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
Monday: BadKitties

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
I wanted to write about online communities and the very real connections we make (including introducing my mother to the "Imaginary Friend" who conquered several personal fears to come to my father's memorial service), but got a little weepy. I had this diary already written. A big hug to everyone who contributes or just checks in on IAN. I'm so glad to be a part of this group.

The music of my very early years was the music of the 60's and 70's. Mostly, I listened to gentle songs sung by gentle people. There were, of course, also songs like Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit." I read a book called "Go Ask Alice", about a girl who took drugs and died. It was published in the form of a diary, but now it has been declared a work of fiction. It's still in print. That book is probably the reason that drugs scare me. !970's clothes scare me, too, and they came BACK! Ack. I'm really hoping that the HAIR doesn't come back, too. After hours of watching 1970's videos, ! almost needed brain bleach. Worst. Hair. Ever.
It was difficult to pick only four evocative songs. So many, many choices: The Carpenters! Linda Ronstadt, "You're No Good"! "Ooh Child"! I was on YouTube for hours.
I loved this song. I probably daydreamed about some boy when listening to it.
This video is just beautiful. I don't think it's from the 70's. The clothes look too normal. I remember when you needed sweaters on summer evenings. I've always loved this song. I think that Carly Simon wrote it about Warren Beatty, although she has never confirmed that publicly. And probably never will.
And the classic "It's over" song...
Ah, this next song...I had a crush on my sailing instructor when this song was constantly on the radio. I was very young (but was tall and so looked older) and he was 3 years older than I. It was not to be, especially when he found out that I was three years younger. My friend Lynn told him my age when he invited me to the movies, and he nearly fell out of the boat. He grew up and kept sheep in his backyard. I was allergic to wool. Definitely not meant to be.
This video, the only embeddable one for this song, is helpfully subtitled in Portuguese. I love learning new languages. Perhaps being able to sing this song in Portuguese will come in handy some day. I'm not sure of the pronunciation of some words, though.
Does music shape the era, or does the era shape the music? I think it's the latter. I hope that everyone has a mellow, and good hair, day =)
