Received this e-mail from Senator Tammy Baldwin (D. WI) in support of Congressman Ed Markey's (D. MA) bid for Secretary of State John Kerry's (D. MA) Senate seat:
Ed Markey's campaign to be the next Senator from Massachusetts is about to hit a critical milestone -- and he needs our help.
Election day for Ed is just two weeks away -- and TONIGHT is his deadline to hit his $200,000 grassroots goal.
Polls have shown Ed's opponent within single digits. If Ed doesn't raise the $200,000 he needs for the last two weeks, he may not get the chance to make up ground.
The deadline is just 13 HOURS away. Join me in supporting Ed. Contribute $5 or more right now.

In 2012, we had time to build a grassroots network that came through when all the pundits called our race a "toss up." But Ed's in a special election -- he doesn't have that kind of time.
Ed Markey would be a great partner in the Senate. He's a champion for fairness and equality. He's not afraid to take on the far right, or their special interest backers, to get things done for the middle class.
He'll fight with us in the Senate. And the other side knows that. That's why national Republicans have already sent staff reinforcements to help Ed's opponent.
We need to make sure Ed has all the help he needs to keep fighting for the next two weeks. Help Ed reach his $200,000 goal before tonight's deadline. Give $5 or more today:

Our progressive movement won huge victories in 2012. Ed's race in Massachusetts is our next big test -- can we keep up the momentum?

By the way, Markey will be having his second debate with Gabriel Gomez (R. MA) in Springfield tonight:
http://www.masslive.com/...
The debate between Markey, a U.S. representative from Malden, and Gomez, a private equity investor from Cohasset, will be held at the studios of PBS affiliate WGBY-TV and moderated by WGBY’s Jim Madigan.
Neither candidate is a stranger to Western Massachusetts. Both participated in debates in Springfield during the primary campaign. With just two weeks until voters choose the next U.S. Senator from Massachusetts, on June 25, this will be the second of just three chances voters will have to see the candidates square off on the same stage. A final debate will be held June 18 in Brighton.
Political consultant Anthony Cignoli of Springfield, who has clients from both parties, said Springfield voters will likely see a similarly spirited debate as Boston area voters witnessed in the candidates’ first debate last week. “Both fellows are looking to engage the other,” Cignoli said.
Polls have shown Markey with a consistent lead over Gomez. A poll released Monday by Suffolk University found Markey with a seven-point lead, 48 percent to 41 percent. Two other recent polls showed Markey with an 11- to 12-point lead.
Springfield, Massachusetts' third-largest city, is overwhelmingly Democratic and could provide a strong base of support for Markey. As of October 2012, the city’s registered voters were 54 percent Democratic, 38 percent unenrolled and just 8 percent Republican. Western Massachusetts is one of the most liberal parts of the state, and pro-Markey unions like the SEIU have had strong get out the vote efforts there.
The debate is sponsored by the Western Massachusetts Media Consortium, which includes The Republican and MassLive.com. It will be streamed live on MassLive.com. It will broadcast live from 7 to 8 p.m. on WGBY-TV, CBS 3 Springfield, ABC-40/FOX-6 and NBC-22, and will air on New England Public Radio, 88.5 FM.
The candidates will debate in front of a live audience of 80 people. Most of the tickets were distributed by the campaigns. Doors open to ticketholders at 6 p.m. and close at 6:30 p.m. - The Republican, 6/11/13
Here's what Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno (D) had to say about Markey in his official endorsement:
http://www.masslive.com/...
"When I think of Ed Markey, I think of a leader, one who is level headed and a statesman, a leader who stood up before it was vogue to be on the forefront battling against gun violence and fighting against corporate tax loopholes," Sarno said. "He continues to fight for our middle class families – Main Street instead of Wall Street.
"He'll be good for Springfield, our state and our nation," Sarno said. - The Republican, 6/10/13
