Just a quickie diary to remind you of NC State Senator Thom Goolsby's schoolyard rant about all of us "morons" who regularly come to state and federal government with our "hands out." As I diaried the other day, he's gotten a lot of responses, most of it negative.
But I am apparently correct in saying that the teabaggers love it. Right now, there's a poll on a local television station's site asking:
What do you think of Sen. Thom Goolsby's comments about the "Moral Monday" protests?
Right now it's 53% "I think he's right on" and 43% "I think he's out of line." Less than 1000 votes have been cast as I write this.
No registration required, just voting. Think we can straighten these numbers out a bit?
A few of the more recent comments:
The man is SUPPOSED to represent all the people in his district. He doesn't. He is supposed to listen to his constituents and do what they want. He doesn't. He instead insults the fine folks who have a different opinion than him. There is only way to get him to reflect on what it means to be an elected representative. Vote him out!
It simply is not a civil way to deal with your voters and opposition. He is trying to rile up the people in the community who respond to this kind of rhetorical washing of the issues in order to distract from the substance at hand. These people are exercising their right to free speech, and have some valid points of concern for people on both of the sides of the aisle actually.
[...]
The entire danger of this kind of article written by a senator is that is appeals to our lowest motivations, divides us and distracts from a conversation about the substance of the issues. It is evasive at least, and incompetent at worst.
Keep up the good work Thom. Calling it like it is something missing in Government these days. Intimidation is a tool used by bullies, but it is bullying none the less. Stay strong.
While Goolsby may get a low score for tact, he is right and is entitled to his opinion. He is one of the few that is standing up to the bullying of these groups (similar to the same bullying tactics used in Wisconsin).
Why disparage morons? Moocher Monday would be more accurate.
To viciously ridicule & demean constituents who are sincerely & peaceably expressing their viewpoints & concerns is totally out of line & unworthy of anyone in public office. Goolsby should respectfully apologize & then meet with those who he needs to listen to so he can understand their concerns & why they feel they need to peacefully protest & even be arrested If he is not capable of showing that respect he should resign.
Carry on the good work Senator. These Liberal loonies need to be taken down a notch. You can't feed a child candy for a long while and then take it away from them. This group acts like a bunch of spoiled brats.
The leaders of the naacp in NC keep this up to keep the jobs they have. If they can stir the pot it seems they suck in the left more and more..There is no money, there is no bank, there is no pot of gold. The money is not there I for one will not drink the kool Aid of the Reverend Barber.
