In December of 2010 I completed my Bachelors of Science in Emergency Management and Homeland Security at the University of Akron (Ohio). For two years I have been seeking employment in that field while working as a EMT and later as a Paramedic.
Today my local State Assembly member wrote me (or at least signed the form letter) congratulating me on graduating from College and urging me to "choose to remain in the great State of Ohio." After all "members of the General Assembly work diligently in brining and retaining jobs to Ohio so that you may continue to succeed and invest in our state."
more after the fold.
This is the same GOP rep who supported the union busting law that was over turned by the voters. Who supported the hand outs to businesses that moved out of state because they did not get enough hand outs. Fought for payday check/loan shops. She has fought every effort to make college at the state level affordable, voted to gut state public school funding, and is a large advocate for teacher testing.
On the other hand, she has tried to get the State to over turn the Affordable HealthCare Act, expanded where you can carry guns, made it easier to get guns, weakened environmental laws for fracking, and tried to get the State to issue "constitutional money" (gold and silver) by making it tax exempt and payable to the state for taxes.
Yup, all these things have done wonders for me finding a full time job. I do see one little place I might be able to help...writing a program to send out congrats letters THE SAME YEAR they graduate.
I am going to write back and explain how her anti-union/anti-business moves have been a contributing factor to my five year unsuccessful search for full time employment in Ohio. How I am now moving to another state because I have found full time employment with a decent union job. It won't be much, but it is a 53 cent an hour raise, a pension, and most important is full time.
I've turned in my two week notice to my other part time jobs and move next week. I guess her letter would have been funnier if it had arrived after I moved.
