Received this e-mail today from Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D. NH) regarding the House GOP:
Can you believe the extreme bill the House Republicans passed Tuesday night?
Their 20-week abortion ban is a direct assault on women’s health, on doctors, and on Roe v. Wade – and we are speaking out today to make clear that we will not let it stand.
Let’s be clear: Their bill isn’t going anywhere in the Senate. Not on our watch, and not on yours!

The Republicans clearly didn’t learn anything from the 2012 election when the voters overwhelming rejected their War on Women and asked us to focus on their real concerns – jobs, health care, immigration reform.
Somehow, they didn’t get the message: The American people don’t want their representatives defunding Planned Parenthood, making it harder for women to get contraceptives, talking about “legitimate rape,” or reversing 40 years of settled law.
They want us to get back to work – not back to the 1950s.
But, instead of listening to the American people, the Republicans are waging their biggest assault yet on women’s health, with a bill that the New York Times called “the most restrictive abortion bill to come to a vote in either chamber in a decade.”
Will you stand up with us to defeat it?

Make no mistake: This is a radical bill. It offers no health exception – no help for women facing cancer, kidney failure, blood clots, or other tragic complications during their pregnancies. It offers no exception for rape or incest victims who are unable to report these heinous crimes against them. It throws trusted doctors in prison simply for providing needed health care to their patients.
So, why are they doing this at all, let alone right after House Speaker John Boehner said that job creation “really is our number one priority”? Because it isn’t about what is best for women and their families. It isn’t about what is best for our country. It is about what is best for the right-wing of the Republican party. Period.
Well, now it is time for them to start listening to all Americans. Will you please add your voice?
