I often admonish people to 'stop asking what they'll come up with next" because that seems to exert undue influence on 'them ' (republicans/conservative/wingnut super-Christians) appearing to cause them to come up with evermore stupid and bizarre things about which they may foam at the mouth.
So I saw this: Spanking For Jesus and I lost my damn mind.
Two websites devoted to Christian Domestic Discipline both emphasize the absolute power of a husband over his wife, a situation that is purportedly supported by biblical teachings.
ChristianDomesticDiscipline.net defines the unusual relationship as a marriage “set up according to the guidelines set forth in the Holy Bible, meaning the husband has authority over his wife within the bounds of God’s Word and enforces that authority, if need be, through discipline including but not limited to spanking.”
ChristianDomesticDiscipline.com, on the other hand, defines the relationship as “simply a traditional, male-led, Christian marriage” in which “one partner is given authority over the other, and has the means to back up that authority, usually by spanking.”
A Beginning Domestic Discipline “Beginner’s Packet” reported on by Jezebelinstructs husbands on how to best manipulate their wives using psychological tricks and corporeal punishment. The manipulation tactics range from taking away privileges like “going out with friends” to bare-bottomed spankings with a wooden paddle.
According to the write up linked there are numerous women who say this is more than ok and that it often helps them to feel calm and that their husbands love them.
From the Jezebel link above:
The Christian Domestic Discipline Yahoo! group, which is private, opens with a quote from Hebrews 12:11:
"No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."
And, whom are we to train into righteousness and peace? Women only (duh)! The group's description goes on to say, "We offer a LOVING approach to all who wish to learn and grow in a traditional Male, head of household, female submissive, Christian Domestic Discipline relationship."
Of course this shit mostly appeals to conservatives, whom I feel are largely defined by a catastrophic delay in moral development, resulting in grown people with the morality of a 4 year old child, along with a disdain for nuance and complex thought.
Conservative males are at greater potential for being possessive and abusing towards women in general - OK they wage a war on women and really, I am unsure how this would not be part of it, albeit and extra-sick part of it.
Experts, however, view the household arrangement as little more than the symptom of disturbed minds. Forensic psychologist Jim Alsdurf told The Daily Beast that Christian Domestic Discipline appeared to be more of an unhealthy and distorted way to fulfill a suppressed sexual desire than a religious lifestyle.
One reason conservative HATE psychology is it always pokes them in the eye.
So taking this fine, fine info to heart I realized I am a shoddy, wimpy husband who is wholly unable to control his woman.
I mean, I have a woman, we got married so I know she's mine but I cannot control her.
She is stubborn, smart, she works like a machine 7 days a week: currently I am LAID OFF because of the vast damages republicans have done to mental health care so she is the bread winner now. From bad to worse, eh?
The only way I can even appear to have any sort of control is to hang around her and watch what she is doing. If she gets ready to pour something in a bowl, I walk by and say "Pour that in that bowl, woman!" She will change tasks JUST to not do as told.
Or she'll say "You shut up."
I showed her this article, about how I am supposed to spank her and keep her in line: all she could say was "That is not right".
Now you know, my horrible secret is out.
I am unmanly and cannot control my woman.
Spanking her is right out of the question.
I am SO ashamed....
