Most children learn at a very young age that ignoring a problem doesn't make it go away, they soon see ignoring a problem will probably make it worse, and then solving the problem becomes much harder. Apparently Speaker Boehner never learned that basic life lesson.
Boehner: More energy regs ‘absolutely crazy’
House Speaker John Boehner blasted President Barack Obama’s coming proposal to address climate change through new regulations implemented by the Environmental Protection Agency.
“I think this is absolutely crazy,” Boehner said. “Why would you want to increase the cost of energy and kill more American jobs at a time when the American people are still asking where are the jobs? Clear enough?”
The GOP Speaker preference for procrastination is at odds with what a substantial majority of Americans want. By pretending Climate Change isn't a costly problem Speaker Boehner is also out of step with what most Republicans now want.
Survey Shows Many Republicans Feel America Should Take Steps to Address Climate Change
Apr. 2, 2013 — In a recent survey of Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents conducted by the Center for Climate Change Communication (4C) at George Mason University, a majority of respondents (62 percent) said they feel America should take steps to address climate change. More than three out of four survey respondents (77 percent) said the United States should use more renewable energy sources, and of those, most believe that this change should begin immediately.
The serious problems caused by Climate Change are eroding the partisan divide on this issue, as the Republican rank and file can no longer ignore the alarming increase in extreme weather events. But the Republican Leadership still says ignoring our most urgent long term problem is what's needed.
To paraphrase Upton Sinclair, It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his party's Big Energy sponsors demand his not understanding it.
