Catholic bishops just don't concern themselves with the rights of People of Color, yet they are obsessed about all things sexual. They blasted the Supreme Court ruling on DOMA/Prop 8 today yet let's see what they had to say about the VRA being struck down yesterday?
Here is a screen shot of the news releases of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) for the last few days in June. As you will note, the Bishops found the moral outrage and had time to scream about the upcoming ruination of civilization since gays have been recognized as full citizens. Yes, indeed, Catholic bishops are sad today (h/t to varil for bringing this to our attention.)
Notice anything missing yesterday? Anything? Anything about the devastating civil rights set back as a result of the Supreme Court decision just YESTERDAY. Crickets. Apparently, they didn't notice that people of color were disenfranchised yesterday. Not on their agenda. "These aren't the droids you are looking for. Move along." (Jesus was white, right?) Oopsie!
And its not as if they can claim that they did not want to register an opinion about or meddle in state affairs. I have bolded all the instances where they have offered their guidance (meddled) on how the secular state should be run in the following list, just for the past few days. They consider their view of reality 'TRUTH' and are indignant when the secular state doesn't conform to their interpretation of truth. (Granted we would agree on 'living wage' and Guantanamo, yet I don't hear their political arm, the Republican Party, lobbying for these changes....)

How easily Timothy Dolan's statement about marriage could be said about the Voting Rights Act (my parenthethical insertions):
The statement follows.
“Today is a tragic day for marriage (voting) and our nation. The Supreme Court has dealt a profound injustice to the American people (People of Color) by striking down in part the federal Defense of Marriage Act (The Voting Rights Act). The Court got it wrong. The federal government ought to respect the truth that marriage is the union of one man and one woman (every citizen deserves an equal right to vote), even where states fail to do so. The preservation of liberty and justice requires that all laws, federal and state, respect the truth, including the truth about marriage (truth about voting.. It is also unfortunate that the Court did not take the opportunity to uphold California’s Proposition 8 but instead decided not to rule on the matter. The common good of all, especially our children, depends upon a society that strives to uphold the truth of marriage (free right of all to vote). Now is the time to redouble our efforts in witness to this truth. These decisions are part of a public debate of great consequence. The future of marriage (democracy) and the well-being of our society hang in the balance.
But I suppose when all you care about is money and sex, then that is what you will see.
Let's bring this BLAZING HYPOCRISY to the attention of as many people as we can. Spread it.... :-)
