No one can beat Mitch McConnell. NO ONE!
The following results from the 2008 U.S. Senate race in Kentucky show that Mitch McConnell's Democratic challenger then, Bruce Lunsford, was getting awfully close to knocking McConnell off:
http://ballotpedia.org/...
U.S. Senate General Election, Kentucky, 2008
Party Candidate Vote % Votes
Republican Mitch McConnell Incumbent 53% 953,816
Democratic Bruce Lunsford 47% 847,005
Total Votes: 1,800,821
Then there are the results for the 2010 Kentucky U.S. Senate race that introduced Mr. "Doesn't Understand the Constitution" Rand Paul:
U.S. Senate General Election, Kentucky, 2010
Party Candidate Vote % Votes
Republican Rand Paul 55.7% 755,706
Democratic Jack Conway 44.2% 600,052
Independent Billy Ray Wilson 0% 338
Total Votes: 1,356,096
Arguably, the 2008 race pitting Mitch McConnell against Bruce Lunsford was a rather close race all things considered compared to the 2010 race against Rand Paul vs. Democratic challenger Jack Conway. Even while in October 2010 the momentum was not on the Democratic Party's side (and the Tea Party continued to rise), Conway still managed to pull off a respective 44.2%. Not bad for a red state like Kentucky.
The point being though is that in both the 2008 and 2010 races and with the fact that Kentucky has a popular Governor (Steve Beshear) and Secretary of State (Alison Grimes), it's apparent that Democrats can run competitive races in Kentucky.
But according to Bruce Lunsford, the Kentucky Democratic Party won't be able to run anyone in 2014 who can run a credible race against Mitch McConnell:

One of the biggest goals of the year for Democrats has been trying to find a candidate in Kentucky who is willing to run against Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican leader. But the last man who tried to defeat him has new words of advice for his party: good luck.
Bruce Lunsford, a wealthy Louisville businessman who challenged McConnell in 2008, said Democrats face an uphill battle trying to win the seat. He said it would be a high-risk move for anyone with a political future, considering most of the rivals who have tried knocking off McConnell have never run for office again.
“There is really no sitting Democrat that I can think of right now that has the firepower, monetarily, or has enough gravitas to take him on significantly,” Lunsford told ABC News. “I’d be surprised if anybody can run against him who thinks they have a further career in politics.”
Right yet Lunsford ran against Mitch McConnell in 2008 and got 47%. This was before Barack Obama got elected and before the Democratic Party considered putting McConnell as a top target for defeat.
More from Lunsford:
But the warning from Lunsford seems to be aimed directly at Grimes, 34, who he said has “a great future.”
“I don’t think there is any Democratic candidate who would be willing to risk the damage that he could do to them in a negative campaign,” Lunsford said in an interview. “It’s going to be very hard for Senator McConnell to lose.”
Right but Lunsford doesn't understand the following:
1) It's still June 2013
2) No well known and credible Democratic candidate with fundraising potential has announced they'll run.
3) Mitch McConnell's attacks will backfire at him so long as the ideal Democratic candidate fires back at him.
4) The DNC and DSCC really wants McConnell's ass defeated in 2014.
And besides, why should we listen to Bruce Lunsford of all people? He is of course a supporter of the corrupt previous Governor, Ernie Fletcher:
What do you think? Bruce Lunsford full of it? Or should he be persuaded to run again in 2014 if he's so convinced no Democrat will mount a credible campaign?
