The face of true contrition
In this week's least touching human interest story, congressperson and aspirational movie villain Steve King wants Sen. Marco Rubio to know that he is really, really sorry that all those people Steve King gathered to say unbelievably stupid and cruel things about immigrants said some stupid and cruel things
about Marco Rubio.
“I do want to say this publicly and hopefully it emerges from the press to Sen. Rubio: It was not my intent for him to be the personal target of criticism. I wanted to avoid that that day, and I think my remarks opening it that day made that clear,” King said. “There were times when I was distracted with other discussions that day and I’ve since realized through the press there were comments made that day that were not particularly complimentary. I have avoided it, I personally like Marco Rubio. We disagree on this issue but I disagree with the entire gang.”
It took him this long to figure out that people had been saying bad things about Marco Rubio? That's not very helpful to the folks who have been trying to convince us that Steve King is not, in fact, as dumb as a post.
Thankfully, Rep. King has now dispatched his general sense of sorrow "publicly," so "hopefully it emerges from the press" to Sen. Rubio that Rep. King feels badly about this. Not bad enough to call him, but bad enough that some reporter somewhere might let Mr. Rubio know that Mr. King is sad.
