Mitch McConnell is easily the single worst member of congress period. He has obstructed to the best of his ability everything that the Democrats have put forth. Fortunately for us, this obstruction has seriously tarnished McConnell's approval rating (36/54) back home and while Kentucky leans red federally, we have an excellent candidate stepping up to bat to take on McConnell. Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes just recently launched her campaign. Polling has consistently shown a very close race for McConnell against Grimes (45/41 McConnell) and she is no doubt one of our top recruits. Kentucky is so far our only good pick up opportunity in the senate this cycle and if we want to ensure Democrats keep the chamber, we need to play offense here and hard.

While this is still Kentucky and Grimes won't be great on energy issues and, though she is pro-choice, will be fairly moderate on social issues, she can be counted on to be a solid vote when the one she casts is crucial on fiscal policy. This campaign will be about McConnell and how he has voted for every policy along the way that blocked our economic recovery since 2008. Remember that this is the Mitch McConnell who said his number one goal was to make Barack Obama a one term president. This is the Mitch McConnell who has at every opportunity filibustered Obama's appointments and senate Democrats' policies, such as expanded back ground checks.

In short, there is not a single worse congressman than Mitch McConnell and by defeating him with a young rising star, we'll send a message that obstructionism is NOT acceptable to the American public.

Goal Thermometer

Donate to Secretary Grimes today even if it's just a small amount and if you're in Kentucky, please look into volunteering for her campaign! Your help will be much needed and appreciated.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
