Our Home on Fire
As the news that our climate is becoming dangerously close to spiraling out of control and on a trajectory toward runaway, irreversible climate change and weather extremes; we are hearing a call to arms on climate change action from scientists and policy makers.
Climate scientist Michael Mann:
It is only through a massive, collective effort that we will turn this ship around, but we'll need all hands on deck...
President Barack Obama:
This is the fight America can and will lead in the 21st century. But it will require all of us, as citizens, to do our part.
Former Vice President Al Gore:
As President Obama said today, history will judge the present generation by our success or failure in meeting and surmounting this existential challenge.
So I urge the nation to follow President Obama’s lead and take the positive steps he announced today, but to keep fighting. We’ve got a lot more work to do.
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI):
So often I hear my Republican colleagues expressing concern about what our debt will do to future generations. Fine. What will a ruined climate do to future generations? What will acidified seas do to future generations? What will worse extreme weather and rising seas do to future generations? There is indeed a lot at stake here, and it is time to wake up. It is time to take action.
Hillary Clinton:
"We are in a race against time," former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned Wednesday night,..."We still live in a state of denial,"
Climate scientist James Hansen:
Check the position of your congresspersons. If they spout things like “global warming is the greatest hoax in the history of the universe,” check the shoes of the people who visit them or have dinner with them. Changes in Congress are needed if we want our children and grandchildren to win this one.
Each and every one of us is needed to be part of the solution working to mitigate the worst effects of climate change. We can start by reminding our congresspersons that
Climate Hawks Vote! But on climate change there is
much that we can do as individuals. We have no time to waste.
