There's been a lot of talk about how the state of things has gotten HORRIBLE.
However, as bad as your perception is, just remember, it cannot get worse. Primarily because it's not bad to start with, but it also cannot get any more scary.
For example, there's no way they could suddenly pass a law to tie the DMV computers to the NSA and FBI computers in some kind of national threat database. And there's absolutely no way that they could decide to suddenly treat driver's licenses as something that can be arbitrarily taken away for crimes not related to anything having to do with driving.
I mean, it's not like they do that already to "Drug Dealers" and "Deadbeat Dads".
(More ways in which it cannot possibly get any worse on the flip.)
It's not like they could pass a law mandating that potential criminals be sanctioned before they commit a crime. After all, somebody without a driver's license can't usually get to the site of a protest and commit a crime, so therefore it's logical that those with a stated goal of engaging in civil disobedience have their licenses suspended in order to prevent them from breaking the law.
And why stop there? It is absolutely assured that people have other "Privileges" that can be taken away if needed. After all who actually NEEDS to travel out of state? It's a known fact that many drug dealers work across state lines. As a result, doesn't it seem logical to require papers when traveling from one state to another? And those "Papers" could easily be taken away if someone is either a criminal or someone who might BE a criminal soon. Of course, this will never happen.
And as far as voting goes, we all know that there is widespread use of fake ID in this country. As a result, it would not be logical at all to demand that all ID's presented at polling stations be checked against the national database. With a nice big sign at the polling station stating that presenting Fake or Suspended Identification is now a FEDERAL crime, and an officer right there to ensure compliance... After all, if your ID is legit, it wouldn't matter. I'm sure YOU would never do anything that might cause you to have your license suspended without notice...
Those lovely little smart meters that the power company is installing all over the country are great too. It's not like we could tie in who uses too much power in one room as the basis for a search warrant for a black market grow op. And even if we did, with the lovely little precedent of secret courts, we wouldn't have to know about it. And the folks who do it are scumbags anyway, so why worry about them?
Course, the good news is that we will catch a few potential terrorists. And after all, isn't that the best news ever? Of course, the sad part is that there are ALWAYS more terrorists. They can crop up at any time and in any house. So therefore it is logical that we would need to have a passcard system similar to hotels. I mean, who really wants to carry around KEYS everywhere? They're noisy, they're jangly and they annoy others. Therefore, It makes sense that all homes should legally be required to have a passcard which can log your coming and going! This would be a great way to spot who is missing for extended periods of time that don't correspond to logged work hours or recreational events... It might even signify someone who potentially is engaging in illegal activity...
As you can see, It cannot Possibly get any worse than it is right now. Because right now, it's peachy keen wonderful. And it only is bad if somebody starts dressing up in uniforms and claiming that getting rid of a specific minority is what is needed. And ONLY if that minority is yours.
