What Are You Working On? is for all things hand-made, home-made, and creative in a variety of mediums.
My topic for the day is not working for me. I had hoped to write about how I learned to knit, and how I learned to re-knit.
My backup topic was to show off my baby sock collection, but there are computer gremlins running amok and preventing me from sharing new photos right now.
I am still knitting baby socks. I am using Shibui sock yarn, variegated, and I have a second skein in blue-green. I am using Hiya steel double point needles, because the bamboo needles I used for the first two socks were not sturdy enough. So far I have five baby socks. Number six is on the needles, and I am decreasing for the foot after picking up gusset stitches. I have enough yarn to knit two more baby socks in blue-green, for a grand total of 8 baby socks. Then I will have to give some of them away, as there are no babies here. There will not be any babies here for some time. Decades.
Pieces of Eight by Susan Pierce Lawrence. I highly recommend this pattern. Everything is very even, and the instructions are clear. These baby socks are my first finished socks ever.
In my continuing sock adventure, I am going to try Simplicity from Two-At-A-Time Toe-Up. I have some purple solid Shibui sock for my son. I am concerned that it will be harder to count the rows with the solid yarn. At least the two-at-a-time method will make sure each sock is the same. I know that cast-on already from my shawl. And I kind of understand the other tricky parts for the heel and heel cup.
Here is a chart in case you knit on fixed circular needles:
