Republican Texas Governor Rick Perry, he of "one, two, uhh" fame, announced today he will not run for reelection. Currently serving his third term, Perry is the longest serving governor in Texas history.

While Perry will not run for reelection, his hair remains noncommittal.

Let the games begin.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  I wonder what his thought process was. (5+ / 0-)

Oh, never mind! Rick Perry's thought process is an oxymoron.

is he has spread around enough of his tax-funded slush fund, err, "business encouragement fund" - that he used to give big box manly-men stores like Cabella's and Bass Pro Shop a million each to open stores, where they were going to open stores regardless - and bought enough corporate good will to ensure his funding for his next national disgrace.

Personally, he'll be fine. He's worth a couple million and pulls in two State checks.

But the real reason? He and the wife really don't like living in the Governor's Mansion and miss that $10,000/month hacienda we paid for during the reconstruction.

  •  Big news! (9+ / 0-)

Could mean a contentious GOP primary, hopefully that will divide and weaken the party so TX can get a decent Governor like Wendy Davis. Could be the first test of changing demographics in the state, to see if TX can continue it's move towards purple status (not expecting True Blue in what's left of my lifetime).

He filed for office in Texas, then immediately got a sh*tpile of donations, though he didn't even declare what office he was running for.

Wendy isn't the only name to keep in mind, although an excellent choice, as we all know, and gaining huge name-recognition. But don't forget the Castro brothers. Both current San Antonio mayor Julian (keynote speaker at the 2012 DNC), and current U.S. Rep Joaquin, are very viable possibilities for statewide office. The twins are young at 38 years of age, good looking, and dynamic, engaging speakers popular with not only Latino voters, but across-the-board younger demographics, as well as forward thinking whites.

I guess you can tell this good news today has energized me - it has been so, so long since real hope has raised it's pretty head here.

Perry's been outed as an moron during his brief, but flaming flame-out Presidential campaign.  He'd have problems, albeit minor ones, getting re-elected.

On a sad note, we'll not be treated to viewing an "oops, I forgot an important part of my platform" ad or any number of ads that could be run of Perry displaying his Sarah Palinesque style of answering questions with a word salad when talking points aren't readily available or memorized.

On the bright side will be a no-holds barred Republican Primary where the all hat, no cattle politicians will do their utmost to out extremist each other.  Yeee-haaaa, that's entertainment and a brutal primary might be just the thing to wake up Texas voters to just how nutty this crowd is.

    Good news for Texas Dems.
