My outrage meter has been pegged to the top for so long that I think it's stuck. Once in awhile I tap it, but it doesn't budge.
I just want to collect my social security and move to Ecuador. That's right...I want to get the fuck out of Dodge City.
Cuz my Social Security sure isn't going to pay the rent in (fill in the blank). And by God, I'm bi-lingual. I can speak Spanish better than most Latino immigrants can speak English. So...I'm thinking Ecuador.
Or Peru. Maybe even Paraguay. Social Security will insure me a life in poverty here. Maybe not so much there.
And I really wouldn't mind leaving this place at all.
America is done. Stick a fork in it.
Unless you have a load a money, and can work the financial scams and Chicago Board of Trading schemes, there are few roads to prosperity left open in this country. If you have it, grabbed it, or were born into it...it's the best place in the world.
For me...Paraguay looks awful nice. Or Ecuador. I wasn't born into it, and I never managed to scrap and scrape myself into it. I'll take the money and run.
I say that for many reasons. Not the least being my Dad. He has Alzheimers.
The system is sucking him dry. If I get sucked dry, I'd rather it be somewhere else.
I've lived overseas before...in quite modest abodes. I can tell you from first hand experience that poverty in America is much more soul sapping than poverty in much of the rest of the world. It's the materialism, and the judgementalism which accompanies it.
I don't see any political/social factors changing sufficiently in my lifetime to curb the clown car that we are all riding. It's got major momentum. God Bless those of you who think you can wrestle the steering wheel from the grasp of those her currently hold it.
When I read the stories I read about the NSA and the tentacles of our govt into our private lives....I am left bereft of any hope that this country will ever be anything other than a bastion of corporate wealth accumulation, while the middle class dies a miserable death...and can't even vocalize the pain they are experiencing.
I have about 4 years to go, and my passport is current.
As soon as I get my first Social Security check, I'm out of here.
America doesn't work anymore. Not for some of us. I'm fortunate to be bi-lingual.
