Today the State of Illinois saw the Veto of a state wide concealed carry law be overridden with support from Democrats. Worse Brandon Phillips D-Harrisburg, (http://www.ilga.gov/...) authored the bill.
Sure he makes some lame excuse that the Supreme Court made him write a bill that prohibits cities and counties from having any say over their cities and counties. But with friends like this, who needs GOP's?
So what does this mean?
It means the State has to set up a system in six months that sets up a permit process for gun owners to get permission to carry guns anyplace in the state no matter what the local law says.
Chicago, which has a gun problem now even though it is illegal to have guns in the city, will not be able to stop people from walking around with guns. The city won't even be able to regulate what or who can have them on the streets. Right now it is easy, if a cop sees a gun, it is illegal. No excuse me, do you have a permit to carry that? How about to own it? (There is still the current Firearm Owners Id Cards in order to own any gun)
Talk about increasing the risks to cops on the street.
Add in now the suburban commuter who "fears" he will be attacked by a hoodie skittle teen, will now be able to tote that .44 magnum all he wants and pull it out any time he gets frightened. I'm sure that won't be a problem.
I guess is makes sense, after all most of the guns used by criminals in Chicago come from the suburbs, now it just will be open.
At least Illinois does not have "stand your ground" law like Florida...oh, wait, it does and you can kill someone who is trying to trespass.
Great work guys!
