So as I was crying the other night, after the verdict, I spit this out on FB. It has 55 shares so far and 165 likes. It literally flew out of me through the anguish of that moment.
Since is seemed to have touched so many, I wanted to share with the Daily Kos family.
"I just feel like I, we, my generation needs to apologize. Trayvon, I'm sorry.
I'm sorry we failed. I'm sorry we stopped short of the goal.
I'm sorry we saw progress and mistakenly assumed we'd reached our goals.
We were the generation of civil rights, MLK, Malcolm, Black Panthers, Huey, SCLC.
We had the tools, the man and woman power, we were congregated and ready.
Why did we allow ourselves to be lured into a false sense of equality? Why was our keen awareness of tomfoolery dulled by illusions of acceptance?
Why did we giddily smile and accept the ONE job at that firm, the ONE crack in the glass ceiling, the 'looks real close to' justice of a 'successful' march or protest. We made it to CNN, we got the country to take notice, we're there right? No. We were not. We are not.
I'm sorry baby.
I don't know how it could of been different. But I know it should have been.
God bless these United States of America. Because we still have the tools. It's up to us to put selfishness aside, pick them up and use them."
