For those curious about one-time FOX News reality show producer James O'Keefe--and why anyone would be is beyond me--there are reports of a local sightings of the recent parolee.
Letten, 'guerrilla journalist' O'Keefe share heated exchange
NEW ORLEANS -- Self-proclaimed “guerrilla journalist” James O’Keefe was removed from the Tulane campus last week after he went to former U.S. Attorney Jim Letten’s Metairie home and tried to talk to Letten’s wife, then on to the university’s Uptown campus to confront Letten directly.
Letten is a dean at the school, and a Tulane police report shows he got into a verbal altercation with O’Keefe last Wednesday. That was after O’Keefe and five others went to Letten’s home and tried to talk to his wife on camera, sources tell Eyewitness News.
(I have quoted from WWL's report rather than the more detailed
piece in the
Advocate as the latter chose to use the phrase "Gonzo journalist"--without the quotes--in the headline and I damn sure don't want the ghost of Hunter Thompson on my ass because I repeated it).
The story in brief: O'Keefe and five buddies in an ambush camera car go to Letten's house and try to secretly videotape his wife. Letten's livid, calls the FBI and Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, and when the first amendment frontiersmen show up at his office at Tulane University, he tears into them and they are issued Tulane Police "restricted presence letters," basically notices to get the f off campus five minutes ago.
The reason the newly-re-mobile O'Keefe was stalking Letten? He still blames Letten, the ex- US Attorney 'round these parts, for prosecuting him for a crime he says he didn't commit, "ruining my life": the kiddie pool Watergate farce in Mary Landrieu's office. Even though Letten had recused himself from that case.
Thus far, no one has reported Mr. Letten's specific address to Mr. O'Keefe. Myself, I imagine it began something like, "Are you" and some modifier, then, "damaged or something, son?"
