[I]t wouldn't have been South Africa without the deafening vuvuzelas, blown at full blast, to wish Mandela back home. Nelson Mandela, age 19. Crowds thronged the wall of tribute outside the hospital, which sprang up spontaneously soon after Mandela was admitted with a lung infection on June 8. Since then, the heaps of flowers, artwork, posters and written tributes have spread along the wall and spilled down a nearby hill. Hopes rose Wednesday evening when Mandela's daughter, Zindzi Mandela, told British television that Mandela's health had improved dramatically and that he might return home "any time soon."

"I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons will live together in harmony with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for, and to see realised. But my Lord, if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." —Nelson Mandela
The people pushing this agenda do not want us fighting for marriage at all, or even pushing for ENDA. They want us doing the work of traditional race and poverty groups, full time, instead of gay rights. And that simply doesn’t make sense if you’re going to claim that you’re a gay rights organization, or a gay rights activist.
More Americans, regardless of experience or specialized knowledge, are finding themselves thrust into the role of caregivers. In a recent Pew Research survey, 36% of U.S. adults said they provided unpaid care to an adult relative or friend in the past year, up from 27% in 2010. Eight percent said they provided unpaid care to a child living with health challenges or disabilities, up from 5% in 2010. All told, 39% of U.S. adults are caregivers, up from 30% in 2010. [...] [A] 2012 survey by the AARP Public Policy Institute and the United Hospital Fund found that in recent years, the role of family caregivers “has dramatically expanded to include performing medical/nursing tasks of the kind and complexity once only provided in hospitals.”

The Central Intelligence Agency is funding a scientific study that will investigate whether humans could use geoengineering to alter Earth’s environment and stop climate change. The National Academy of Sciences will run the 21-month project, which is the first NAS geoengineering study financially supported by an intelligence agency. With the spooks’ money, scientists will study how humans might influence weather patterns, assess the potential dangers of messing with the climate, and investigate possible national security implications of geoengineering attempts.
"To paraphrase Carl Sagan, we are all star stuff, and our jewelry is colliding-star stuff," says Edo Berger of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA). He's the lead author of a journal article about the crash of two neutron stars and the accompanying gamma ray burst. "We estimate that the amount of gold produced and ejected during the merger of the two neutron stars may be as large as 10 moon masses—quite a lot of bling!"
