Received this e-mail today from Senator Chris Coons (D. DE) regarding the Respect For Marriage Act:
After the Supreme Court overturned a key part of the Defense of Marriage Act, I said: “It just got better.”
That’s true, it has gotten better – but there’s still work to do. Congress needs to finish what the Supreme Court started.
We must repeal DOMA, once and for all, by passing the Respect for Marriage Act.
Already, 41 senators have co-sponsored the Respect for Marriage Act. Another 13 have said they support marriage equality. That’s strong support, but not enough for passage. We need your help now. We have to get this passed.
Join my colleagues and me: urge the rest of the Senate to work with us to pass the Respect for Marriage Act without delay.

I am proud to live in a state where marriage equality is the law of the land, thanks to Governor Markell, courageous leaders in the Delaware General Assembly, and the thousands of Delawareans who fought for it. From Wilmington to Rehoboth, a married couple is entitled to all state and federal benefits – no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity.
All legally married same-sex couples, regardless of where they live, should be able to access the full range of federal benefits they deserve, but that won’t happen unless Congress changes the law.
Equality is the birthright of every American, and it's up to all of us to work to ensure that everyone can access the equal rights and protections due him or her.
You can help us do it.
