Before the 2020 mid-terms, I begged everyone with whom I worked, everyone with whom I had a passing friendship, to vote.
I, with passion, pleaded for people to vote, for I knew, beyond a doubt, that the batshit crazies would vote.
I implored; I offered rides to polls. But yet none would take this mid-term seriously.
And so here we are- suffering at the hands of the extremist right wing nuts.
Listening to Boehner, et. al., I fear for the future of this country.
It all began with the election of Barack Obama. And as my son watched the results, declaring the country post racial, I waited for all the cockroaches to crawl from the woodwork.
And they did. Over and over they showed this President disrespect. And yet not one elected official on the right would stop the constant antagonism. That really said something to me about this country.
The fact that no elected official from the opposing party would denounce the virulent, race based, unadulterated hate for this President- not one Senator or Representative- would stop the outrage.
They wanted the House. So they sold their souls to the devil to get it. And now we all have to live with the ignorance of these elected officials.
It is so simple for them. They hate Barack Obama and everything he represents.
So considering how many States are making sure people don't vote; so many women will be without the rights for which my generation fought; gays and lesbians will be shoved back in the closets - we need to halt this insanity.
How? We are a thinking community. We understand the difference between the President and the policy. We can understand that we will never agree with everything our President will do.
We also understand that by putting Democrats in the House and Senate, we are more apt to get more of what we want.
I don't know about anyone else, but I do not want my grandson and granddaughter to grow up in a society that does not value women, gays, lesbians, atheists, blacks, brown and yellow people.
We need to join together in our local and state communities and organize. We need Democrats to avoid listening to the media meme of Democrats don't vote in mid-terms. We need to get people out there to vote.
And this is especially true in all the states that are determined to stop us from voting.
If we, individually, do not do our part, I fear we will pay a dear price.
And if you think that the Republicans are worse is not a reason to vote? Spare me. It is more and more obvious every day how extreme these people are.
