A very interesting piece today by Emily Bazelon on Slate about the Chamber of Commerce attack on consumer class actions and the 5-4 majority that supports them.

4:37 PM PT: The short version (and it's tough to be succinct on this) is that after a series of big wins in the Supreme Court, the Chamber and its friends are lobbying hard in the courts and the right wing echo chamber to turn these washer cases into the final nail in the consumer class action coffin. But, as Bazelon concludes, they need to be careful what they ask for, because the facts of these cases, where a company knowingly sells a product that develops hidden mold, and then sells its customers yet another product to fix the first problem -- and even it does not work -- does not make for good legal theater even in this Supreme Court.
