Good Morning this is the Saturday Morning Home Repair Blog where the Dailykos community gets together to talk about all things construction and repair. Our genial and expert staff stand ready to aid you on your every problem
The boss finally got tired of talking about enclosing this overhang.
The guys doing the Cement Floor have got started.
To have a nice shop the old floor had to be replaced.
to get permits the pads under each of the 6 poles have to be replaced.
east side
west side
So they told us to somehow hold the roof up.
The architect said to do one pole on each side, that would take 3 pours.
The cement guys said lets do oneside at a time.
so I'm building these things to hold it up.
I have 4 jack bolts that will slide into the tubing, we will rent 8 more.
On top of each of those supports will be a 6" 15# per ft h beam. those are 4' long.
I will drill holes & blot the H beam to the existing beam so they can't slip. there will be lots of bracing with 1 1/4 x 1/8 angle that will bolt to the sides of those supports. I drilled a hole & welded a 3/8 flange nut in place.
here is the top beam done
got the 6 stood up & bolts in the beam, took about 4 hours.
takes a while to cut all those pieces of angle.
here is another look
It rained us out on Wednesday
in the am we will finish bracing up the other 3 stands in the morning, the cement guys will break up those footing under the poles as soon as we know the support system is holding the roof up. they had out the laser level & we have to raise each pole from 1 to 2 inches to get the floor level.
Thursday we put the bracing on the second stand. it took us 3 hours to cut, notch & drill them bolt them in place. Much faster then Tuesday
then they used this to break the old pads out.
In the morning we will finish digging the holes out & form up for cement.
lots of steel to cut also.
we have to wait 7 days to move the scaffold to do the other 3 poles.
those guys kicked my ass this week getting this done.
I'm to old to work like that !
it's going to be a scary deal waiting to pour the floor & have that roof sitting on 24 pieces of one inch round bar ! as you can see in that last picture. it's 8".
so the project has a lot of weird things that will be done as it's built.
I'll write another post went to floor is poured in about a month.
I should have put this in here also
