Democratic gubernatorial candidate Barbara Buono today chipped away at one of Gov. Chris Christie’s strengths — his handling of the Hurricane Sandy recovery.
She charged that he awarded a $25 million contract to an influential firm that promised to feature him in the upbeat and ubiquitous "stronger than the storm" television ad campaign while ignoring a lower bidder.
"It is nothing short of outrageous that this governor would put his ego and national ambitions above helping people," said Buono, a Democratic senator from Middlesex County who is trying to unseat the Republican Christie. "He gave $2 million to secure a starring role in the equivalent of a campaign commercial."
The Asbury Park Press published an article over the weekend that detailed the awarding of the contract to MWW, an influential public relations firm with deep ties to both parties in the state. - The Star-Ledger, 8/7/13
There are still Sandy victims that haven't received the funding they need to help get their lives back on track. Buono is not going to let this issue rest:
Chris Christie should be ashamed. When New Jersey got federal funds to help us rebuild and get back on our feet after Hurricane Sandy, the money wasn’t supposed to be used to promote the governor. Instead of going with the lowest bidder, Chris Christie spent an extra $2 million dollars on an advertising campaign that prominently features him.
Chris Christie should be embarrassed he's using federal funds to promote himself, instead of New Jersey. Click here to sign our petition calling on Chris Christie to pay back the $2 million dollars that he spent to promote himself:

New Jersey deserves a governor who puts the state above their own self-promotion. It’s outrageous - $2 million extra dollars spent, all to boost Chris Christie’s ego.
Sign our petition demanding Christie repay the taxpayers for the extra money used to feature him – instead of hard-working New Jerseyans:
