Republicans throughout the country are running scared. What do they fear the most? The success of President Obama’s signature accomplishment in office, sometimes called “Obamacare.”
Yes, it’s true.
We blogged about it in detail today at
GOP fears nothing more than Obamacare success
As so brilliantly captured by Prof. Paul Krugman in his column in The New York Times on Monday, the issue of health care reform is rending the GOP apart, and not a single thing they can do or say will prevent the Affordable Care Act from being implemented.
It is the law of the land.
Furthermore, as Americans begin to feel the full benefits of it in the coming months, it is bound to become one of the most popular federal innovations in recent history.
The party is splitting apart over whether it should push defunding the program or, worse, shutting down the federal government by refusing to expand the debt ceiling.
It is their worst nightmare.
They had constantly assured GOP supporters, especially the radial Tea Party wing, that Obamacare would never happen, and that they would see to it.
Now it is becoming a huge political liability.
They are stuck between a rock and a hard place. The chickens are coming home to roost.
