I know this is most likely not my place and I know people have deep ideas about what is going on with NSA, but first let me say I'm a REAL PERSON. I'm also not a fascist. I'd love to take the time to introduce myself since I have been grouped together into something only because I posted a comment. I came here because I like Politics, but I do not know how well I will do in the current climate. Apparently lines are drawn between Dems.

I would like to state I am a progressive Dem. I'm not fully happy with all the things Barack Obama has done, but I think between Obama or Romney I am still glad I supported Barack Obama. My first choice was John Edwards after he dropped out it was between Obama or Hillary. Honestly I think either or would have been fine as a President. There is a lot of stuff Bill Clinton did that I didn't like either, but that is part of the Pagan in me.

You see as a progressive I am not a single issue voter. I believe in changing NSA, but I do not believe in how the story with Snowden is. No offense to those who support Snowden I just do not believe the story has been handled well and that is a media issue on my part. I do not like the total drama or on going Soap opera effect. This whole Episode is confusing. Below the jump I'll explain more

For NSA it isn't about just spying, but knowing that technology has been turned against us. I want to state again I do believe in changing NSA, but I believe in doing it the right way. No matter what I say next someone is going to change my words, but I'll say it I think there are some give and takes when it comes to living in the world that we do. My idea of Freedom giving up everything and going back to cave living. Sadly I can not do that yet because there are still people I take care about.

As a Pagan I believe in standing up for ones right. The reason why I am a Pagan is because I can not conform to a religious belief. I myself believe in all the Gods and Goddesses of the Old Ways. That is not for everyone and I respect that. It is why I am writing this as my first dairy please understand we are not black and white. I have views that differ from some and that is fine. Nobody should be forced to pick sides on this.

If you are going to make NSA about picking sides nothing will be done. Honestly people if we want change to happen with NSA then we need to be the leaders not just people responding to stories to call each other names. You want to make a difference fine then here is what I want you to do start holding meetups and gathering people together in all 50 states. Occupy was a movement and right now you want something to be done then you need a movement. START ONE.

We may not agree on who has the data or how it is being released, but we can agree on one thing as citizens it is our job to create change. If you want to learn from history study how Paganism truly was. There were Pagans out there who could truly stand up and stop wars. Now it maybe impossible to do that now with technology, but understand if you want change then lets CREATE TRUE CHANGE not just name calling. If you want to do something with the REAL WORLD then now is the time to go out and get Dems together. Force Town halls on the subject get others together. Do not just fight among dems and name call to each other instead lets start by doing real ACTIONS towards change. I am not black or white and you will never get me to pick a single side because I am a Pagan. If you want to challenge my views do so by CREATING REAL CHANGE. Stand up for your rights.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

A diary like this is not a good idea. Really. You got called a name? Come on. This is the intertubes. Writing a diary about that is not a good way to greet the neighbors.

I politely suggest you delete this, set your skin on "thick as a crocidile's ass" and join the fray. Write diaries on issues that hit you, know your stuff, and go to it.

Think about how inane someone has to be to call someone on a liberal site that. In certain diaries, if you say something just to the right of Che Guevara, you'll be called a fascist.

Generally, you might find it helpful to just take some time to get used to the place.  It's a very very large community.  There are all kinds of people here; and many of them are extraordinarily kind, helpful, sharing, compassionate, and loving.  There are also many people here who are extraordinarily knowledgeable about certain subjects.

After spending some time here you will probably start to get a feel for who you find to be valuable resources, whose writing you enjoy, whose opinions are worth reading and considering even when you don't agree, and who you are comfortable sharing with.

And you'll also start to get a feel for who is probably not worth your time getting into discussions with, and the types of discussion threads that aren't your cup of tea.

The NSA issue is quite divisive.  There are many people on all sides of the issue who have perspectives and points worthy of consideration.  On an issue like this, patience, tolerance, respect, and understanding can be helpful.

It is, in my view, through working together, rather than against each other, that progress is made; progress for social, economic, and environmental justice.

So read, consider, contribute.  But underlying it all is community.  We are here to help build a better world for everyone.

    Welcome, and enjoy.

  •  When someone calls you a name just reply with (5+ / 0-)

OK - that's it nothing else.

Then when you are asked to find all the times you have been called this name all you have to do is search your comments for OK. You can click on parent of the OK comment and it will show the offending comment.

Plus, if you answer the name calling with a simple OK you won't be tempted to name call back. Answering name calling with name calling is a recipe for trouble. You are talking to someone who fell for that.

    A good diary.

I often think those who call names and act as bullies are acting against themselves because people stop reading their diaries and lose respect for them.

That is sad because despite their having many other friends who laugh with them, they might be missing out on something good that others would have to say.

Besides the ones such as you who speak up, there are many who lurk and turn away from those who are truly unkind.  Thin skin or not, as others said, there are many good people here to spend your time with.

Not only will it make all 50 states stronger, but the more actions we take now the better are chances to get real change done. We may not all agree, but instead of playing the game of name calling that is what this is about a call to action for all Dems to come together and start doing real action not just name calling. Lets really do something here productive instead of wasting energy that could have been used wisely.

I'm sorry you were offended by that exchange, which, having not participated in it myself, and after a quick scan of your comments, I assume started out with this comment of yours.

You may want to consider acclimating yourself to DailyKos a bit more, as it can get rather abrasive at times, especially in hot-button types of diaries where sitewide consensus is absent.

In any case, I hope you stick around. There's plenty of good stuff here that isn't controversial -- people write great diaries on a variety of different subjects. I know I've personally learned a lot from this place.

    •  It's not so much offended, but the irony of it (0+ / 0-)

As a Pagan I believe in standing up for our rights, but doing it in a matter that causes true change. My skin is tough because as a Pagan I have to be. Nobody truly understands it.

I am going to use a prime example of what a Pagan faces secrets. There are Secrets that some Pagans know, but we can not share with the world. There are times when we wish to fight and share our knowledge, but it goes against our own coven wishes. My Knowledge that I have gained on Paganism I can not truly share, but that doesn't mean I won't fight for someone.

Just as the NSA story has many different layers so do people. We all are different in our beliefs, but we are people. Our knowledge is different as well. You may have a better understanding of something faster then me because of past experience or something I have yet to influence me. I am new here, but I am used to standing up and I would rather see us focus on real change. Lets gear up a true movement.

Given the propensity you've shown so far for reading more into words than people actually say, you may want to consider a more measured approach in your reaction to comments made by others on a political blog.

I've asked the diarist twice in this thread for evidence of her being "called a fascist", and have received no reply.  I noticed only this dairy, and one other, in her comments thread.  Thanks for showing me where the term 'fascist' came into the discussion.

This is the diary to which this diary refers:
      http://www.dailykos.com/...

In the section of comments you link to, DeadHead, this discussion transpired:

      (1.)  this diarist states that UK is 'ruled by King/Queen' (a monarchy);
      (2.)  1st reply points out EU treaties and common law (re: free speech/expression;
(3.)  2nd commentor replies to 1st reply, to commentor at (2), not to the diarist

As if these fascists give a damn about any law.
(4.)  In reply to (3), this diarist ASSUMES that 'these fasicsts' has been applied personally and directly to him/her.

This diarist appears to have personalized a generalized comment about 'these fascists' in government.  This began a threadjack on British government -- an interesting threadjack, and informative in its off-topic way.
