Outrage coursed through the right media and blogosphere yesterday and today: Senator Tim Scott -- the only African American Senator -- was not invited to speak at the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington! Typical of those dastardly Dems and Minorities who won't recognize African American conservatives in their effort to keep them on the Democratic Plantation. How dare they?!!
You can feel the indignation and righteous anger flowing through the links on this search.
Typical lib move, once again the Democrat Party shows no class . . . .
Wait -- What? You mean he was invited??
As set forth below, the speakers were chosen from those who confirmed they could attend, and Scott's office declined the initial invitation to attend.
The Senate’s only black lawmaker wasn’t invited to speak at Wednesday’s 50th anniversary March on Washington, because Tim Scott’s office declined an invitation to attend the ceremony as a spectator, according to a source connected to the event.
“Much of the speaking program was created based on those who were able to confirm availability to attend the event, and thus were able to speak at the event,” the source explained.
On August 8, an email was sent to all members of Congress. Within a day, Scott's assistant wrote:
Thank you for extending to Senator Tim Scott the invitation to the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington on August 28th. Unfortunately, the Senator will be in South Carolina during this time, so he will be unable to attend the event. Please do, however, keep him in mind for future events you may be hosting.
(The correction was made by
Roll Call, the same journal the published the initial incorrect story.)
In the immortal words of Emily Litella, "Never Mind."
Except, of course, now that Scott's initial incorrect statement that he wasn't invited has spread through the right media world, that false statement will now become "truth" just like other myths.
Just like "Casey not permitted to speak at the Dem Convention," "Scott Not Invited to Speak at the March on Washington Event" will be seared into the realm of truthiness, spouted forever by the right everywhere.
