Today is Friday! And I'm going to talk about my new favorite commercial.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group!  Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Ok, we have a (mostly)  finished diary schedule.  If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
Monday: BadKitties
Tuesday: bigjacbigjacbigjac
Wednesday: Caedy
Thursday: weck
Friday: FloridaSNMOM
Saturday:broths
Sunday: loggersbrat
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
This is a community Diary whose purpose is well stated. Trolls will not be tolerated. They will be eaten, fed to the 3 Billy Goats Gruff, or referred to the Wild Hunt depending on the taste of the Diarist. If you don't like community diaries or the subject matter, don't read it. Thank you.

My new favorite commercial isn't my favorite because of what it advertises. It's a Guinness commercial and I'm not a beer drinker, I'm barely an alcohol drinker. Instead it's my favorite because of the other message it portrays. This is the commercial in question:

I get warm shivers down my back every time I watch it. It shows the power of friendship, solidarity, loyalty, and supporting the disabled. In today's society this is an important message. It seems every day we hear about the disabled being abused, neglected, put down, held back, and otherwise discriminated against.
The heart warming stories of support, love, and help mean that much more because of it. Yes, this is a marketing ploy to sell more beer, but at least it sends a positive message with it. A message that maybe some people will absorb and pass on to others in their lives.

So what's you're favorite commercial and why? How can you help spread the message to support those less fortunate than ourselves?

?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.

Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

  •  g'day all; still having bouts with narcolepsy (10+ / 0-)

which is really an odd existence, as doing ordinary everyday type things is done in a fog while dreams take on a painful reality and vividness.  Just dreamed I was trying to purchase an antique 2 cent piece out of a vending machine and no matter how many times I selected the 1872 coin, I received a coin of lesser value.  (hey I can't control my dreams)

    •  I have fairly vivid dreams, sometimes. (7+ / 0-)

      There were a few times
I dreamed my first wife was still alive,
and I was back to my old routine,
      taking care of Pam,
      same old same old.

      In my dream,
      I thought,
      didn't she die?

      I guess not.

I must have gotten mixed up.

      Oh well.

      When I woke up,
      of course,
      I finally got it straight.

      Amazingly,
      that kind of dream
didn't always make me cry a lot.

      Usually,
      I cried a little,
but not as much as you might think.

I get some really odd dreams when I'm not feeling well, especially when I have a fever or am in pain. They seem more real than reality as well and they're so... weird, it's hard to see how they could.

  •  Fall baskets from recycled newspaper. (9+ / 0-)

I thought everyone would like to see this project for making small baskets.  It just takes some old newspapers, a skewer, white glue, clip cloths pin  and a cake mix box.  If you have spray paint, you can paint it when you are finished.  I saw some baskets made from the funny papers at JoAnn's this summer and they were expensive.  Here you can learn to DIY a small one.  Enjoy!

  •  Good morning. (7+ / 0-)

Going up to 83 and sunny, but the mornings are getting cooler.  Come on fall.

That is a great commercial.   Thanks for showing it.   I never saw it.   I don't watch that much t.v., and I think I filter out most commercials.

Doing some shopping and other errands today.

    Have a good one.

  •  Don't watch TV (7+ / 0-)

so don't get an opportunity to see many ads.  This commercial is really cool.

Alarm was set for 6:30 so that I'd be ready to go to the senior center at 8a.m.  At 4:50, the damned  truck came to empty the dumpster across the street.  I'm going to talk to the boys who own the little store.  I know they'd be angry if they thought the neighborhood was being awakened so early on account of their trash.  It makes me look like a whiny old biddy, but I never complained when it was before seven, or even shortly after six.  Before five is nuts!

And I hope you get some resolution on the trash truck. Unfortunately, the business may have little control over when they show up. Somebody has to have early pick up or they'd never get done.

      •  There are plenty of places (7+ / 0-)

that aren't 50 ft. from houses and apartment buildings.  I know the boys (they are actually two brothers from Pakistan who are really nice) will exert pressure on the company.  They are dedicated to this neighborhood.  They bought the abandoned building on the corner and have made it into a nice little store.  It's still got lots of smokes and liquor, but they also carry things like flour, sugar, soup, pasta, eggs, dairy products, etc.  You wouldn't want to do a week's shopping there because it's expensive, but for the people around here who don't always have transportation, it's a godsend.

  •  I would like to clarify something. (6+ / 0-)

There's been talk lately about IAN members writing diaries and putting them in the "hopper", and they will get published.   The hopper here is the queue.   The queue is where the diarists who write daily diaries schedule them.   There are also 2 back-up diaries in the queue.   The back-up diaries are only for emergencies.   We rarely have emergencies, so If you write a diary and put it in the queue as a back-up, it could take months or years before that diary is published.

If you want to write a diary, tell us you want to in a comment , like it says in the header above.  There are several regular diarists who are willing to give up a week occasionally for someone else to write.   Just let us know and time will be set aside for you.

    Thanks.

I am a work in progress. Still.

  •  Not feeling my best today (7+ / 0-)

I'm stiff and I hurt all over, especially my right shoulder and all down my back. I woke up in knots. I haven't even tried getting the sweeping done, that's going to wait for Bit today. I managed to get down the steps to my computer, but I did it slowly and carefully (and initially it wasn't to get to the computer, but Sophie lost a bone under the couch and was whining and digging at it). So If I'm scarce on and off today, that's why.

  •  It's a beautiful day here, but was cold overnight; (5+ / 0-)

the county south of us had frost warnings.  It is just a tease though, it will still be in the 80's next week.

To speak to the extra diaries,  I was surprised that my diary was used in an emergency, but glad that it was there and ready to go.  But I think it is far better to know in advance that someone else can cover if you are not able to publish.

To accomplish that, it is simple enough to queue your diary ahead of time.  Even if you don't schedule it (the emergency diaries are queued but not scheduled) someone else can make sure it gets published as soon as it is noticed.

I also want to thank everyone here who has written diaries, or will be writing.  I know that committing to even one diary a week on Kos takes time, but from my heart, and from those who visit us and read, THANK YOU .

IAN diaries are day brighteners, and during these worrisome times, they reassure me and others that our world is still moving in a recognizable direction.  Thank you also to the wonderful and interesting people who leave comments.  It is a fine feeling to know we have a few friends in our corner, and we can spend a smidgen of time with them each day.

Thank you; writers, readers, commenters and silent visitors!

I look forward to reading every morning, and checking the recs and tip jar to count heads :)

Marti is filling in for me on the 16th. If anyone would like to write a diary for a Monday, let me know in the comments by replying to one of mine. My Kosmail has over 300 messages:( I'm trying to read and delete, but I'm terribly busy.

I either have a fracture, a sprain, thumb arthritis, or gout in my right thumb. It hurts if I try to bend it, it's swollen, and there's a lump on the bone. What a pain in the ass. I just saw the doctor on Wednesday, and this happened yesterday!! It's less painful today. I'm thinking it's gout because I was dehydrated. Uric acid builds up. I do NOT eat rich food and gave up my nightly glass of wine.

Hope that everyone has a good day!! Continuing the search for baby stuff for Lily, arriving Tuesday!! So I am going through the boxes in the storage rooms. I think I gave most of DD's clothes to my niece, but there might be a few things left. Lily and her DH are broke because her crappy FL insurance refused to pay for a perinatologist and testing. So their medical expenses were huge, and their income was not. I do have a MacLaren stroller to give her :) washed everything yesterday, will clean the stroller itself today. It's very dusty. I'm glad that I forgot about it and still had it!

I think the bumps I get on my fingers are R. arthritis.  I rub the heck out of them and use shiatsu massage (accupressure?) to make them go down, but tweaking the diet helps too.  I need to limit red meat and tomatoes!  I notice it first in my pinkie fingers.

When it gets too bad, heat and ibuprifen help too.

I hope I never get the gout!

I suddenly gained 8 pounds (WHAT the F???) so am back on the Phentermine. It's dehydrating and I didn't drink a lot of water yesterday.  I will today!!

I wish I could use one of the rubs with capsasin (hot pepper) in them, but I may be allergic to that. I get symptoms if I accidentally eat some hot pepper.

We gain and lose a lot of weight when we move the scale, it is one of those vintage balancing ones, and was great in the house with the level floors.  Partner is always overjoyed when he "loses" and upset if he "regains".

I'm pretty much over it, I really don't move that much up or down, and since food is mandatory, I want to enjoy it.  I am fighting genetics when I try to look different from my mom and grand mom and all my great aunties.  Except for anomalies, they all lived long and baked goodies well into their old age.

I was never the thin one!  (Except the time I had surgery and was on IV "food" for ten days!)  I looked sickly at low weight.

when she got married. She says that's one pound for each of us that she could never lose. She's disciplined herself her entire life. Her mother was small and thin, but her father was enormous at one point. His doctor told him that if he didn't lose weight, he'd die. Granddaddy took it off, was thin my whole life, and lived to 94 :)

Daddy had a doctor's scale set to 212. (He was 6'3") He weighed himself every day. If the scale moved, he cut out butter and walked to work. He also had to stay fit for the Army. When I gained weight in college from drinking soda and eating desserts (neither of which I was allowed at home, except for the occasional ice cream, or the cookies we stole from Daddy's underwear drawer), he called me "Chubso" and "Lardass" the whole week that I was home. Made me so mad, I went back to school, completely changed my diet (I still don't drink soda and desserts are very rare), started working out 5 days a week, and maintained that weight until now.

So as you can see, I have issues =( Being overweight is absolutely not an option and must be dealt with swiftly and harshly. Bleah.
