Welcome to the Tuesday Coffee Hour here on Street Prophets. This is an open thread where we can hang out and talk about what’s going on in our worlds. The question of the day is: Do you give names to your vehicles? If yes, what and you named them and why?
I’ll go ahead and start. Yes, we name our vehicles. Let’s start with the big one: we spend much of the summer in a motorhome named Bullwinkle. I’m not sure how we can up with the name, but it seems to fit. Before Bullwinkle, there was Molly, and before Molly there was Philbert (our faithful powwow pony named for a character in the movie Powwow Highway).
With regard to smaller vehicles, our newer Suburu Forester is named Harald. I teach a course on the Vikings and one of the famous Norse Kings was Harald Bluetooth. Since the Forester has Bluetooth, it seemed logical to name him Harald.
Our older Forester doesn’t really have a name. After putting the tow hitch on the front so it could be towed by Bullwinkle, it became the “toad” (or “towed”). Prior to this, we towed George, a fun little purple convertible that carried the markings “Geo” on the front and back.
Okay, now it’s your turn: Do you name your vehicles?
This is an open thread: feel free to vent, share, and otherwise talk about what’s been happening in your life. If all else fails: What’s for dinner?
