Obama doesn't leak, he desensitizes. When it's going to be bad news for his liberal/progressive base, he lets out the news gradually to defuse - and diffuse - the bad news. The continuing leaks, hints, news about the "bad idea" deflates the outrage and disappointment. By the time the bad news finally is a reality, people are resigned and the reaction is mild. The initial outrage at the first inkling and at subsequent desensitization "trials/sessions" (in psychological terms) rarely makes much news because there's no reality yet and the anger is usually expressed internally, say, in websites like this one. So here's the latest for desensitization pleasure. If you would like to pause now to put your while laboratory rat costume on, I'll wait ....
Obama set to name Summers as Fed chief: report
U.S. President Barack Obama plans to name former U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers as the next chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve Board of Governors, according to a report Friday by Japanese newspaper Nikkei, which cited unnamed sources. An announcement is expected as early as late next week, following the conclusion of the Fed's policy meeting on Wednesday. Treasury Undersecretary Lael Brainard, who served as an economic adviser under the Clinton administration, will likely be named the central bank's vice chairman, the Nikkei said. Summers would succeed Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, whose term expires in January. Summers and current Fed Vice Chairman Janet Yellen had been considered the front-runners to become the Fed's next chief.
UPDATE
Apparently, the While House has denied the report:
White House spokeswoman Amy Brundage said in a tweet Friday that "the latest rumors this morning in the Japanese press aren't true" and that Obama "has not yet made a decision on Fed Chair."
When is a decision a decision?
