A year ago, my job sent a bunch of us back to Detroit for a couple of days.
We had a lot of fun, Tigers game, and they wined and dinned like we were the kings of the world.
On the way from the airport we noticed all the boarded up ( nice ) houses. In the city, all the empty buildings. It made us think, here is a city that is broken, totally beyond repair. It was sad to see, especially coming from Utah, which has not been hit as hard as many places.
One thing we did notice however, was the optimism of the Detroit people. Everywhere we went, the people were very interested in what we thought, or what we have heard or read.
Everyone had things to say like, were not as bad as you've heard, or were coming back, you just watch us. I hope and think they will. Never once did we hear a negative word from the Detroit people.
I think their optimism, in the end will get them through the hard times.
