Ok, so 13 people are killed at the Washington Navy Yard by yet another manic gunman with an AR-15 (a handgun, and a shotgun) and we have no further than to look at Fox News to find the real and true cause and culprit for this horrific tragedy.
Apparently, according to New Gretchen Carlson Mark II Clone Elizabeth Hasselbeck the cause is Call of Duty and other "Shooter" Video Games.
http://www.rawstory.com/...
Co-host Steve Doocy noted that 34-year-old Aaron Alexis was thought to have taken a shotgun onto the Navy Yard and then possibly used it to acquire a handgun and an AR-15 assault rifle from someone at the facility.
“Is this about gun control or is this about a guy who has a history of drinking a lot, playing video games a lot and a few shooting incidents?” co-host Brian Kilmeade asked.
“One thing that happens often in a situation as tragic as this is we start to spread blame where it possibly doesn’t belong, right?” Hasselbeck remarked. “I think we all know where the blame truly belongs, and that would be right in Alexis’ hands.”
“But you talk about this guy’s background, as we look into it,” Kilmeade continued. “He’s got a friend, who said, ‘Yeah, he had an obsession with video games, shooting video games. In fact, he would come over and he would be playing so long — these video games, these shooting games — we’d have to give him dinner, we’d have to feed him while he continued to stay on them.’”
“Are more people susceptible to playing video games?” Hasselbeck wondered. “Is there a link between a certain age group or [demographic] in 20- to 34-year-old men, perhaps, that are playing these video games and their violent actions?”
So of course we don't need any more
Actual Gun Control or Regulation or Background Checks or anything we clearly need to
Register Video Guns because apparently the use of
Guns on Computer Screens has gotten completely out of hand and is just the cause of so much tragedy and violence in - what do ya call it again? - the "Real" World.
By the way, Call of Duty with customizations like "Ghosts" and "Black Ops" is a simulation of being a member of JSOC (Joint Special Operations Command) which includes Seal Team 6 - the group that took down Osama Bin Laden - simulations of this type are now "a cornerstone of Army and Marine Training" yet still on Fuxs News pretending and practicing to be a soldier in the midst of combat is obviously so much worse than being an actual soldier or Navy Reservist with possible PTSD or other compound stress and personality issues (including reportedly paranoia hearing voices as has been alleged with Alexis)
Also these games are already regulated with a Rating Systems that isn't available with Guns. The most recent versions of Call of Duty are Rated "M" for "Mature, Suitable for ages 17 and Up". Alexis was 34, clearly he was supposed to be "Mature" enough - moreso than the 6-year-old who shot his sister in the FACE with a Shotgun the other day.
Despite what Fox News claims, actual people who study this sort of thing have something different to say about the alleged links between Call of Duty and Sandy Hook.
Ironically this comes from Media Matters in response to claims made by Gretchen Carlson Mark 1 on Fuxs & Friends.
Unfortunately the Research noted by Carlson and Ablow doesn't prove what they say it proves. http://mediamatters.org/...
In fact, the author of the research cited by Carlson and Ablow -- which was actually published in 2010 -- has stated that video games cannot be the sole cause of mass shooting incidents, despite being a proponent of the claim that a relationship exists between video games and real world violence. Ohio State University professor Brad Bushman published the survey of other studies that found a link between playing video games and aggressive thoughts cited by Ablow during his Fox & Friends appearance.
However, in explaining his research on video games in a March 20 New York Daily News op-ed, Bushman wrote, "It is crucial to understand there is no single cause of a crime like [Sandy Hook shooter Adam] Lanza's, and no responsible scholar could claim that violent video games cause murder."
We still don't know exactly what caused this particular incident, we may never know exactly.
But now that we've wrapped up the 'Violent Video Games Did it" Red Herring can we now have a discussion about how a guy who had been apparently diagnosed as being "paranoid and hearing voices" and had a history of "gun violence" still had a security clearance (reportedly it was an "Interim Clearance" pending completion of his full FBI Background Check) and was easily able to legally purchase a shotgun last week that he used to start this particular murder spree?
