There is a lot of talk about keeping WMD out of the Middle East, yet the elephant in the Levant is hardly ever spoken about.
Israel Has not signed.
The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons
The Biological Weapons Convention
The Chemical Weapons Convention [along with Myanmar]
It is I believe the only country to hold this trifecta. I suppose you could say the are being honest unlike some.
It is a widely held belief that Israel has developed and maintains stockpiles of all these types of weapons, the US has rebuffed all calls for inspections by the international community.
(Reuters) - The United States said on Tuesday an Arab push to single out Israel for criticism over its assumed nuclear arsenal would hurt diplomatic efforts to ban weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East.
So including Israel would hurt the effort to get these weapons out of the region? Sorry, what, has Israel relocated?
Washington is committed to working toward a Middle East zone free of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and their delivery systems, the U.S. envoy to the IAEA said.
So we will bludgeon anyone else in the region that we even suspect of having them, and when we find out after the carnage they don't our Government finds another excuse for the invasion. Yet we ignore suspected breaches in the
forth Geneva Convention on a daily basis by Israel, and then we continue to label other states as rogue elements.
I would say that the only way any diplomatic effort in the Middle-East has a chance of working is to stop the procrastinating with respect to Israel, including them in the program for removing WMD from the region might just make the negotiations credible.
We create treaties for these abhorrent weapons for a reason, [ then again we also said torture wasn't acceptable and was a crime against humanity, so double standards all round I suppose] we should at least try to be consistent on how they are applied.
Unless it involves the US or Israel; OK got it, and so does everyone else.
