Will the House get it together and avoid the shutdown? Will they raise the debt ceiling? Will they do their jobs?
No.
The teaparty republicans actually don't believe in government. They hate it. They think if they shut it down, that people will regain their freedom.
It's just like the sequester, an agreement that was supposed to be so terrible that everyone would work hard and compromise to avoid it. But guess what? The teaparty loves it!
So no, the teaparty is not going to suddenly get a burst of empathy. They are not going to do the right thing. They want the shutdown. That's why they have never taken "Yes" for an answer. They won't stop until the only government is at the state level--and then they will move to the county level.
They will gladly challenge the full faith and credit of the US government. They don't care if the national or global economy collapses. They dream of the day it will, because they think they will be immune from the consequences.
In that sense, they are far more dangerous than the original traitors who tried to set up the Confederate States of America. And look at where so many of them come from: Red states tend to be Johnny Reb states. It's not a coincidence. Make no mistake; the tea party (and their funders) are fighting a war against the social compact. They don't care if people lose everything. They don't even care if people die.
Yes, it is amusing to watch Mitch and Boehner squirm in terror of the monster they helped to create. But the rest of us have to try to live with their failure. And some people will die because of this ideological insanity.
God help us all.
