NEW YORK, NY - AUGUST 27:  Former governor Howard Dean campaigns with Democratic mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio at a subway station on August 27, 2013 in New York City. With two weeks to go until the primary election, de Blasio is currently running in a tight race with City Council Speaker Christine Quinn in the Democratic race for mayor of New York City.  (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)
Received this fundraising e-mail from former Governor and DNC Chairman Howard Dean (D. VT) in support of U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen's (D. NH) re-election bid:
Amid all this government shutdown-debt limit nonsense, can you imagine if Democrats didn’t have a majority in the Senate?

There would be no safeguard at all. Republicans would have full run of the place – and it would be a disaster.

Stopping them will take reelecting strong Democrats, like my friend Sen. Jeanne Shaheen. But it won’t be easy. She’s the only Democrat elected to the Senate from New Hampshire in 30 years. And no less than five Republicans have eyed challenging her, with Karl Rove urging them on – plus, her last race came before Citizens United gave the Super PACs a blank check.

Jeanne’s going to need all of us behind her. She’s got to raise $62,500 by the FEC deadline at midnight tomorrow to build a grassroots, people-powered campaign.

Can you help her? We’re counting on you.

Donate $25 or more to Sen. Jeanne Shaheen right away. New Hampshire deserves a voice – not a Karl Rove pawn:

I was the governor of Vermont when Jeanne was New Hampshire’s governor. I got to serve alongside her up close. Let me tell you: she’s New Hampshire through and through.

On energy, women’s health, marriage equality, equal pay and more, Jeanne’s been instrumental. The progress we’ve made on these fronts would have been impossible without her leadership and determination.

But Rove, the Koch brothers and other shadowy groups, they don’t care about New Hampshire. They just want to replace a proven middle-class champion with a loyal vote for the Tea Party agenda.

We can’t let them. Join me in taking a stand now by donating to help Jeanne make her goal. You’ve got 36 hours, so act fast.

Give $25 or more to help reelect Jeanne Shaheen and protect our Senate majority:

Thanks for fighting for our progressive values,

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
