I just tried and failed to sign up at healthcare.gov.  The following is a chat session with a helpful representative:

[10:52:39 pm]: DuShine
Hello, how may I help you?
[10:59:34 pm]: John
Whoop. Didn't see you in the chat window.
[11:00:00 pm]: John
Same problem everyone else is having probably.
[11:00:13 pm]: John
How do I get past the security question page?
[11:00:37 pm]: DuShine
I apologize for the inconvenience. The Health Insurance Marketplace will officially open at 8 am Eastern Standard Time to accept applications.
[11:01:21 pm]: John
Then pass on to IT that it needs to close the signup page until then.
[11:01:48 pm]: John
Lots of people are hitting it and getting a bad impression.
[11:02:16 pm]: DuShine
I do understand, and I apologize for the inconvenience.
[11:02:19 pm]: DuShine
Do you have any other questions that I can help you with?
[11:02:58 pm]: John
No thanks. I will post to DailyKos to sit back, have a beer, and wait until morning :-) Thanks again.
In summary, check back at 8 AM.  Hopefully they will have the kinks worked out by then.  I foresee much swearing and consumption of Monster energy drinks into the wee hours tonight.

Mon Sep 30, 2013 at 11:52 PM PT: I have gotten past the security questions and created an account.  This required clearing out session cookies, because previous bad values "stuck" and wouldn't let me past.

I received a confirmation email, clicked the link, and attempted to log in.  Login failed at the /marketplace/auth/userprofile page with an error code.  I'll keep picking at it because I'm sick in the head that way.

12:04 AM PT: Haha - their properties file is obviously busted.  That'll teach them to use java!  I accepted the terms.  Now I'm guessing what "???ffe.ee.myAccount.profile.LOALandingPage.exempt.description???" might mean.

?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

I'm sorry - I work in IT so I have some sympathy.  But people need to get fired over this.  Most likely managers who completely ignored warning signs that things were going pair shaped.

And whatever idiot decided that funneling people through an intricate signup process before showing them the plans was a good idea.

Just show me the goddamned plans!

  •  Of course! (7+ / 0-)

If it opens online, it means "during business hours", not "when the date turns over to October 1st".

You'd think The News would have explained that to America. But no. Not their job. Sowing the seeds of confusion, anger and division sure seem to be, though.

Hopefully, they work out the kinks by morning. I was twarted by the same site error. I know I will hit it up once again at that time.  The state I currently live in has their own exchange which isn't up an running yet, but I may be moving to a state which will use the federal site.

Health insurance options will be one of the biggest deciding factors on whether I will move (self-employed), and which county I may move to in that state.  So far, it seems like it might be difficult to find out this type of information.  I guess I just need to be patient and wait a bit longer.

the website until 8AM then that should have been broadcast. If the snafu is that the site won't allow you to complete the form after 8AM then it's ridiculous that they didn't do better testing.

Either case seems to give skeptical folks like myself ammunition I would rather not have.

They should have had some kind of dramatic countdown clock to opening.  Chat is swamped and it is not a very good impression to open the site up to registration without full functionality.  Wasted 45 min there for no reason.  Gonna be insane at 8am.  You would think they would want to open it up in the wee hours when traffic is lite so they could observe functionality under an increasing load as folks wake up.

In other threads on this subject others have posted that chat told them it's heavy use and some have been told not open till 8AM.

    Use a computer.

As somebody who does web sites for a living, it doesn't surprise me that these systems are having problems.  It'll get better.  But it may take a week or two for things to settle down.

like before it goes live. How about running it parallel to test.

This is really, really bad for Obama and the Dems. It gives the Rs the ammo they need to backup their argument that it should be delayed a year.

I can't believe after 3 years things like this can happen. How much longer will they need to clean it up?

      •  Harder than you think (0+ / 0-)

These projects were likely done on tight schedules and tight budget.  And figuring out how a big site will behave when slammed by traffic is very hard.

It's easy to criticize these people.  Especially for people that don't understand how these things work under the hood.

    Create a Marketplace account

Important: Your account couldnt be created at this time. The system is unavailable.

That's pretty stupid of them, to start giving people a bad impression from the very beginning.  They should simply have posted a note on the first page of signup about it being unavailable until 8am, sigh.

Now it's Oct 3 at almost noon.

In Georgia I STILL can't get past the blank page on /marketplace/auth/userprofile.  Even after clearing cookies.  Even after creating a brand new second account in a different browser with a different email address.  All this phenomenal load is just for us to get to the first inner page and stare at a white screen?

I was stuck at that same blank page off and on for the past two days.  I also hadn't been able to upload my verification documents for the past 3 days (kept saying your documents couldn't be uploaded at this time).

I finally was able to log in fully AND upload my documents successfully after reading the tip about clearing my cookies in the original story.  I just cleared them for the past week in chrome.

It was damn frustrating not being able to upload my documents the past 3 days.  And you call up and the support is very little help, they're all new and don't know enough to help yet lol.
