My son is ready to take his first driving test, in order to earn his learners' permit (or, as they now name it, his graduated license).
Oh, wait - we must present his Social Security card, and we can't find it. They're issued at birth now, and we haven't needed the physical card until this moment. "No problem," said I, "I'll run by the Social Security office and get the forms for a replacement card."
Um....nope. There's a security guard at the door of the local Social Security office, pointing everyone to a sign that lists the only things the office can do during shutdown - and replacement card processing isn't on the list. "Even the folks who print the replacement cards are furloughed," the guard said apologetically.
Methinks a hashtag and Twitter trend are in order.
It's really simple. Every time you find yourself in need of a government service that is currently unavailable due to the "government shutdown", send a tweet and/or Facebook post with the #ThanksGOP hashtag. For good measure, those of you represented (cough) by a GOP Senator/Representative could mention them as well, so that they or their staff will see your tweet. (You KNOW they search for their own names, if nothing else...)
Here's mine:
Something tells me that we could get this hashtag trending in no time.
Let's point out just how far-reaching this GOP-manufactured hostage crisis has become.
