With the government shutdown going on, I only have this to ask: Mr. President, why didn't you let the wingnut thugs pull this stunt two years ago? Anyone who's paid attention this entire time knows this shutdown temper tantrum of theirs would come to a head at one point or another.
Look, I don't have kids, but everyone knows that if you give them an inch, they'll do as much as they can get away with until everything spirals out of control. Essentially, that's what's happened here.
Of course, the wingnut caucus will claim they're doing this on behalf of 'The American People', but we all know that when they say 'The American People', they really mean their wealthy donors who rig the game on Wall Street and abroad at everyone else's expense. That's how it's always been I suppose, because if the founders had their way all those years ago, you'd bet your ass there would have been no bill of rights whatsoever included in the constitution, not that it's ever been of any consequence to them though.
Let me put it this way: After 70 years of overthrowing governments abroad, the Republican cartel has brought its ideas home, and now they're simply doing the same thing they've done to countries like Chile, Argentina, The entire Middle East, Asia etc. In other words, they want to turn this country into a nation of peons so they can take what they want without so much as a whimper.
This isn't anything new, though. Our country has always been at war with someone, and most of the time, corporate interests were involved. As for what's going on here, they tried this before too, only it was the American 'Liberty' League's attempt at a fascist coup against FDR when the new deal was passed. They (The Republicans) tried it again when Medicare was passed too, and they almost succeeded then as well.
While I'm no cheerleader for the Democrats (Though I will say I love Elizabeth Warren), the Republicans have proven that they aren't just incapable of governing, they're outright unwilling.
With all that being said, I think a few million of us ought to march on DC and call for the resignation of the Republican hostage takers and have emergency runoff elections for their vacant seats. They may have large elephant sized propaganda machines to distort and demonize, but we have numbers. And numbers don't lie, even when someone like Paul Ryan or Simpson and Bowles are cooking the books. I have a lot to say on how elections work over here, but I'll leave that for another diary.
Speaking of resignations, how long do you guys think it'll be before John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell all resign in utter disgrace?
See you around,
Homer
