Recently a friend took me to his favorite Vietnamese restaurant for my first bowl of Pho. What is pho you ask? Follow me over the squiggle.

Pho (pronounced variously as fʌ, fə, fər, or foʊ;[1] Vietnamese: phở, pronounced [fəː˧˩˧] ( listen)) is a Vietnamese noodle soup consisting of broth, linguine-shaped rice noodles, a few herbs, and meat.[2] It is a popular street food in Vietnam[3] and the specialty of a number of restaurant chains around the world. Pho is primarily served with either beef or chicken. The Hanoi and Saigon styles of pho differ by noodle width, sweetness of broth, and choice of herbs. The origin of pho and its name is a subject of scholarly debate.

We ordered their spicy version. It was delicious and the bowl was so large a family of four could have shared it. I was expecting something like a Hot and Sour soup, another yummy fav, but this was different. Sweeter with larger pieces of tender beef. Garnishes offered were culantro, lime and bean sprouts.
