First of all I want it understood that nobody even remotely suggested I do this. In fact I hope I'm not stepping out of line by doing this. I certainly don't to get into trouble or tread on anyone's toes or turf. But as I was composing a long comment in this evening's Open Thread for Night Owls, it occurred to me that I was running way long. I thought to myself, "This would be much better as a diary than as a comment." And since, being a furloughed federal employee I have nothing better to do and don't need to be up tomorrow morning for work, and I've got a bunch of draft diaries in my queue that I resolutely refuse to complete and post, maybe I should throw something useful out there, just so I can say I've actually completed something for a change. So, below the orange whatsit, you'll find a brief, yet passionate testimonial to the institution known as CHEERS & JEERS. (In lieu of the pertinent links I'll instead post a link back to the open thread, where the donation links reside).
C&J is where I go to piss and moan (and occasionally celebrate pleasant occurrences). It's where I go to get away from flame wars, which never happen (okay hardly ever happen) in C&J. In other words I go to C&J when everything else on this site is making me suicidal and/or homicidal. I can honestly say that were it not for C&J I might well have given up on the Great Orange Satan long ago.
I go to C&J because there are so many cool kids in the Kiddie Pool. And I always wanted to be a cool kid.
I go to C&J on my birthday (which coincidentally happens to be the birthday of Daily Kos and if that isn't "not just a coincidence" I don't know what is), just so I can have my camels blessed, personally, by BillInPortlandMaine himself.
I go to C&J on Friday afternoons even though I don't drink rum & cokes, because C&J is somehow still funny even if you're sober.
And finally I go to C&J because Bill (and Michael; how could you forget to mention Michael, MB?) are the epitome of what every progressive gay couple should be. Also, too, they're both adorable.
I regret that I have only made a one-time contributions up until now. Once I retire I will probably be able to be more consistent. Which may sound weird until your remember that my paycheck comes from the federal government and is therefore subject to being cutoff for spite by those whose views are opposed to truth, justice and the Orange Way. The pension on the other hand will be pretty reliable. Until the teabaggers decide I don't deserve it of course. But we can keep them from looting the federal treasury by following the links graciously provided by Meteor Blades in this evening's Open Thread for Night Owls and making the appropriate, non-tax-deductible but very well worth it, contribution.
