As you watch the current situation unfold, regarding the continuing resolution to fund the government and the upcoming debt ceiling debate, I'd ask you to think about this possible scenario based in the follow-the-money axiom.
The Fed (Central Bank) is one of 60 members of the Bank for International Settlements. These member organizations (Central Banks) have more or less homogenized the international financial system based on the neoliberal philosophy.
If the U.S. defaults on its debt and there is a chain reaction, you are likely to see the following, not only in the U.S., but in most of the other countries with Bank for International Settlements Central Banks.
Borrowing interest rates would skyrocket, both for governments and for people. Government institutions would be severely weakened. Pension funds would be deciminated. A resulting severe economic contraction would bring about a recession or depression. This would affect people's ability to earn money, which would bring about a spate of debt defaults.
People unable to pay their debts (which is the primary instrument by which the international banking cartel controls entire economies) would then be subjected to foreclosures (in the case of home mortgages). Governments and municipalities hungry for funds, and unable to raise enough taxes, would sell off real assets to.... Then bankers and financiers.
When the dust is settled, in the aftermath of the economic depression, there would have been a massive transfer of actual tangible assets to the banking cartel. Government institutions, the public sector, would have been severely weakened. And the chaos and panic caused by the financial shock (on the population) would have justified the imposition of draconian security measures, with the resulting effect of the lost of human and constitutional rights.
In other words, neo-feudalism.
I'm hoping that this whole thing is resolved, just like anybody else, but in case it is not resolved, and you see us moving closer and closer to the brink of another financial/economic shock, keep in mind that there will be winners and losers in the aftermath.
